    I am another fed-up person with Win-Hand's new pricing policy. I read about Palm VNC in another thread and downloaded it. Please excuse this question if it seems rather stupid but, I get the feeling that PalmVNC, although marketed as a virtual network connection, it cannot be used wirelessly with the Treo 650? Is this assumption correct?

    Anyone with experience and more common sense than me, please advise...

    Thanks,

    Cliff

    That's kinda the point.

    Works great, but I won't be using it to write the great American novel any time soon.

    Okay fine. Perhaps you can provide some enlightenment on why I can't connect to my desktop. The server is listening, i.e., the icon is in the taskbar tray, the client is installed on the 650 with the IP address and I keep getting the error messages "ERROR:cannot connect to [ipaddress]:5900.

    Now before everyone decides that it's a firewall issue or a desktop problem, remember Win-Hand worked flawlessly and still does.

    VNC uses ports 5900 and 5800. You must have a firewall rule that forwards them to your desktop. You also need a static ip address or a way of discovering the address of your firewall. Hope this helps!
    Palm III -> Palm V -> Blue Palm Vx w/Omnisky -> Treo 270 -> Treo 600 -> Treo 650 -> Treo 680

    Win hand is sweet... when it works. It is always telling me I need to download a new key... I'm gonna try VNC.

    I also had/have WIN-HAND working flawlessly the first time on my computer. I still wanted PalmVNC to work as well (when WIN-HAND starts asking for money). Here's what I did -- I want to no-ip.com and create an account (to get a static ip address). Downloaded the IP DUC program (all this is free BTW at no-ip.com) to my PC.
    Set up the PalmVNC program on my TREO to connect to the Static IP I created at no-ip. It took about 4 hours for the internet to recognize the static IP, so don't fret it if doesn't work right away. I just kept pinging the Static IP until it replied.
    Make sure PalmVNC and IP DUC are on and in your Task Manager bar.
    That's all I did and now it works great. I didn't have to do any PORT FORWARDING on my Router (though I did try it, but couldn't get it to work).
    Hope this helps.
