    Oh, a couple of questions...

    1. Would any of the above allow me to use MP3s for ringtones?
    2. PDAnet...that allows me to hook up my T600 to a laptop for net access...right? Where do I get the cable? Or is it jsut the one that came with the T600?

Movierec lets you take little movies with camera.
Soundrec lets you record voice memos.
All the files starting with Real are for Real Player, for listening to mp3s.
All the files starting with pTunes or PocketTunes are for Pocket Tunes mp3 player.
PDAnet does work as you describe, using your usb hotsynch cable, however this program requires a desktop application installed on your computer.

None of these apps allow you to use mp3s for ringtones. There are several programs that do allow this, with varying feature sets. Which one to purchase depends greatly upon your needs. Some are simple, some are more advanced. Some are BUGGY and cause random resets on the treo. Search the forums for lots more info...

He gave you PTunes for free...
start cheering, my friend. That's about $30 worth of shiznit - not a lot, but it's worth it.

As you see there are multiple Ptunes files:

pTunesOgg.PRC (109792 bytes) [View] [Save As]
pTunesWav.PRC (9119 bytes) [View] [Save As]
Pocket_Tunes_ShoutCast_URLs.PDB (3273 bytes) [View] [Save As]
PocketTunes.PRC (482081 bytes) [View] [Save As]
PocketTunes_TNpt_Bookmarks.PDB (345 bytes) [View] [Save As]
PocketTunesPL-TNpt_Def_PL.PDB (376 bytes) [View] [Save As]

Which ones should I install and how?

Install them all by clicking each one. Your hotsync manager will put them on your treo at your next sync. Each one is a component that allows p-tunes to work fully. It enables you to play different music file types, etc

Do a Google search for PDANet, you'll find their website.

And you may likely not have gotten $30-60 worth of software for free. Everything you listed is available with a limited free trial and requires registration for full functionality and/or removal of a time limit. (Suck as pTunes and PDANet)
