    LOL!!

It's always funny (for an European like me) to see how serious some Americans take this whole Monica L. thing...
Instead of looking what Clinton accomplished as a president, they seem to focus on his sexual activities...

mmmm that's enough politics for me today...

Well, the Legistrative branch of our government accomplished alot (since they are the real power in American government. The Exec. branch hasn't had that kind of power since Nixon). Can't forget Allan Greenspan either.

Our former president, on the other hand, performed some sex acts with his intern and got his law licence suspended for 5 years for lying about it and is going to be the focus of a federal investigation (along with his wife) for some of those pardons he signed off on.

So I guess he did accomplish a few things during his 8 years. Just nothing that will bode well for his legacy.

    - Sluggo, that's the same tired, grand-OLD-party argument I hear whenever republicans can't admit a democrat helped this nation...

"[Clinton] performed some sex acts with his intern and got law licence suspended for 5 years for lying about it and is going to be the focus of a federal investigation (along with his wife) for some of those pardons he signed off on."
    - Sluggo, I'd rather have Clinton screw an ostrich on the Capitol steps than have him secretly and illegally sell arms to our ENEMY like Reagan and Old Bush did. And speaking of pardons, remember when Old Bush pardoned Caspar Weinberger? Gee, I wonder if Caspar being able to implicate Old Bush in Iran-Contra had ANYthing to do with that...

"So I guess he did accomplish a few things during his 8 years. Just nothing that will bode well for his legacy."
    - Sluggo, don't worry about Clinton's legacy; Old Bush raised taxes after vowing not to, and Reagan stripped the innards of this country just to out-muscle an already fading superpower, but their legacies stand strong in the hearts of naive americans everywhere...

And I'd LOVE to see a PortaHoward (Stern) !!!

    BionicDave,

    >>- Sluggo, that's the same tired, grand-OLD-party argument I hear whenever republicans can't admit a democrat helped this nation...<<

The statement I made has nothing to do with any political party's stance (or my own party affiliation for that matter). It's the truth.

Prior to Nixon leaving office, the Executive branch was THE power in American government. He truly had the power to be the driving force for anything he wanted to have done. And Congress would back him up 90% of the time no matter what party controlled the House and Senate (although they always hold the power to shoot him down at any time). Watergate changed that.

Don't get me wrong, the President is still an extremely powerful person, but Congress still holds more power than whoever sits in the Oval Office and has gotten even more powerful in the last 30 years from the aftermath of Watergate when Congress stripped the executive branch of some power and gave it to themselves.

    >>- Sluggo, I'd rather have Clinton screw an ostrich on the Capitol steps than have him secretly and illegally sell arms to our ENEMY like Reagan and Old Bush did. Let's not get into all of the sh*tstorms that Mr. Clinton stirred up. The presidency is an office of respect and he made it into a laughing stock all around the world. The key to his popularity is that he can charm the pants off a nun. If you look closely at who he really is, there isn't much to like outside of his charm (Personally, I think it was an embarassment to have a man who dodged the draft become President and be commander-in-chief of our military).

Do I agree with what former presidents Reagan and Bush may or may not have done (do keep in mind that there will never be real proof of their involvement in anything illegal)? Not really. Iran-Contra was a bad thing. But, neither of them lost an impeachment vote (remember Clinton was impeached by the House) nor were they caught in a lie under oath. Another thing to think about: Did any of the pardons that Reagan or Bush issued ever cause such an uproar that a Federal criminal investigation was being called for? The answer to that of course is no. The Caspar thing ruffled a few feathers, but that was it.

    >>- Sluggo, don't worry about Clinton's legacy; Old Bush raised taxes after vowing not to, and Reagan stripped the innards of this country just to out-muscle an already fading superpower, but their legacies stand strong in the hearts of naive americans everywhere...<<

I don't worry about Clinton's legacy. I won't have to live with the stigma he made for himself. He will. What's really sad is that time won't make it any better. He thinks he'll be like Nixon was in his later years: the elder statesman that everyone will go to for advice.

    What a joke.

He should just build his library in Little Rock and drop out of sight only to appear for "living president" events.

I don't feel like getting in a political argument on these boards, let alone in a thread about PortaPets (Though PortaBill would be great! He could interact with PortaHo!), but I have to stand with Sluggo on this.

Clinton may have accomplished things but none were that significant that I know about, most of his accomplishments were really with foreign affairs and not domestic. Al Gore campaigned on the same things that Clinton did, the reason? Clinton didn't do anything.

The first 4 years were probably when Clinton got anything done, the last 4 were pretty much him trying not to be impeached. Even people who have stood by Clinton through all the crap hes done are now leaving his side because of these stupid pardons.

I liked it better when SNL made fun of Clinton eating cheeseburgers at McDonals.

    - Snore. Ok, Slug-man, you obviously don't travel much. It was only in America that people so obsessed over Clinton's private life, and so jumped on him whenever he did junk that EVERY president does; the rest of the world laughed at us, not Clinton, laughed at us for our stupid reactions and politically-motivated witch-hunts. And as for draft dodging, I'm sure you feel FAR more confident knowing that our current leader boldly protected the borders of Texas from the encroaching Viet Cong threat. What a brave American hero! (well, at least when he wasn't drunk driving or hoovering lines off his daddy's coffee-table...)

    "Iran-Contra was a bad thing..."

    - Shame on you, Sluggo. That's like saying Calista Flockhart's diet is going well...
