Question from a newbie. I used to HOTSYNC my old Samsung I300 to 2 or 3 different desktops (2 at Home and 1 at work) with no problem. Now that I've upgraded to the 650, I've gone from 1100 contacts to 1800 and at times 5500 contacts. I'm using outlook, so I can't use that cool feature PALM DESKTOP offers of deleting duplicates.

Ques 1) Can I somehow Sync once to PALM DESKTOP, so I can delete duplicate contacts, and appointments, and then go back to syncing to outlook?

Quest 2) Why can't my Treo 650 handle 2 or 3 different 'puters. How do I 'sync up my 3 computers to my 650?

Ques 3) I've also heard that I should change my 650's USER NAME to 10 or less characters, as the TREO 600 (And possibly other palms) have issues beaming via IR to users with more than 10 characters. I tried and verified it as mine has 12 characters and wont accept from a 600.

Make sure you've got the latest Outlook conduits from P1 support. Then make sure they're set to "Enable synchronization with multiple PCs" in the advance settings.

I looked, but couldn't find what you're talking about (Unless you mean purchasing the Chapura upgrade)

Every once in a while I get duplicates in my contacts on the 650. Could it be that I use Bluetooth once in a while and other times cable sync?

    Thanks,

    George

FYI, you can also remove duplicates using the Palm Desktop Tools!

Goto palm desktop > tools > addins > remove duplicates

You an also repair corrupted PIM dbs by going to Tools > options > tools fyi...

Some tips on dealing with Duplicate records

    1. The manual method in Outlook - takes a couple of minutes to setup the special 'View' but it works beautifully.

    2. A program to de-dupe Outlook records - v snazzy
    http://www.mapilab.com/outlook/remove_duplicates/ $24 and worth it.

    3. An older method - using an application on the device (not sure if it works for the new PIM apps on 650).

Jumping in --- you guys heard of UNDUPE from Stevens Creek Software? Saved my **** several times. Forget the price about usd 10 I think, bet better spend that than remove hundreds of duplicates by hand after you try to sync with a second pc and run into a hiccup causing all your addresses and calendar items to be duplicated!

Ditto on the recommendation for Undupe. It's one of the best palm apps out there!

    Hi all,

New Treo 650 user. Just spent an hour on the phone with Verizon but no luck solving this problem.

I do local hot sync to bring in my contacts and calendar from Outlook 2003.
I use Wireless Sync just for my email (address book, calendar, and personal info are disabled from wireless sync and there are no contacts on the wireless sync site).

In Outlook 2003, my contacts folder looks clean - no dupes, no unnamed contacts.

Old Palm backup folders were renamed to "Old Backup".

I started from scratch with a hard reset, did a sync, and I end up with about 20 unnamed contacts at the top of my contacts list (in the 650) - they are just email addresses, which I recognize, but that are not in my outlook contacts. I think they are from an old Outlook Express account - however I have now cleaned out that express so that it has no contacts. Also, I get a few (not all) duplicate contacts.

I think there must be a backup or other contacts folder that is being drawn in during the hot sync.

Any thoughts? Thanks in advance, Nico

I don't know whether this is a hardware problem or a software problem but it's driving me crazy so I hope someone on this forum can help me. I have a cingular branded 650 and for some reason I now have about 7 or 8 duplicates for every one of my 1000 plus contacts. I sync on 3 different computers and the thing thats really perplexing me is I purchased and ran undupe and it showed 389 duplicates being removed but when I go back to my contact list I still have all these repeat contacts. But undupe shows all duplicates being removed. One other thing- when I go into contacts and scroll through it shows each contact only once but if I type in a name (any name) it shows a whole list of duplicates. I want to do a hard reset but when I sync with the computer it hangs when the contacts start to sync. This happens whether I sync with outlook or palm. If someone can help me figure this out I'd really appreciate it.

ok, I hope this is not gonna sound really stupid, but as I have had this same prob, here goes: are you SURE that you have checked the search AND REMOVE option checked. By default Undupe only searches and reports duplicates.

I would rename my backup folder on all my computers except one. Then delete all the duplicates on the palm desktop. Delete all your contacts on the phone and then hotsync to the computer without the duplicates. I've noticed that the palm desktop and the phone contacts are not always in the same order so when I try and delete the second one on both and sync, they come back as duplicates. If I delete both from the phone and one from the desktop I don't have the duplicate problem anymore.

Did you copy to contacts to your SIM card? There is an option to show either sim contacts and internal contacts or both. If you made a copy, you could try turning the option to show both off.

    Are you using outlook,

If so, there are some outlook duplicate removers out there and then resync doing desktop overwrites palm with your contacts.

Or go to the custom view of your contacts page and see when they were all created and delete the newest ones since those are the duplicates.

Hi - my UnDupe, which worked fine on the Treo 600, now
    mysteriously crashes my Treo 650.

Anyone have a good duplicate record remover for the
    Treo 650 that doesn't crash?
  19. #19
Do you use the Palm Desktop? There's a duplicate record removing tool in it - under Add Ins.
    V > Vx > m505 > m515 > T/T > T3 > TC > 650 > 680

Here's the scoop from Stevens Creek Software's website.

    http://www.stevenscreek.com/support/support.html#UnDupe

My Treo 650 or Tungsten|T5 freezes when I run UnDupe. We are aware that UnDupe causes these two new PalmOne models to freeze when it has completed its functioning. The software itself does work (i.e., it does delete duplicates), but freezes after it is done. From what we have learned, this appears to be a problem which occurs in a number of circumstances in a variety of programs, even during HotSync, under conditions in which the standard Palm databases have been accessed and modified. We (and Palm) are aware of this problem and are looking into a solution, although at this time we have no estimate as to when an updated version of UnDupe (or an updated version of PalmOS, which might be required) will be available. You will be notified when that happens
