My Treo 650 or Tungsten|T5 freezes when I run UnDupe. We are aware that UnDupe causes these two new PalmOne models to freeze when it has completed its functioning. The software itself does work (i.e., it does delete duplicates), but freezes after it is done. From what we have learned, this appears to be a problem which occurs in a number of circumstances in a variety of programs, even during HotSync, under conditions in which the standard Palm databases have been accessed and modified. We (and Palm) are aware of this problem and are looking into a solution, although at this time we have no estimate as to when an updated version of UnDupe (or an updated version of PalmOS, which might be required) will be available. You will be notified when that happens

I use undupe all the time...no freezing. I think it did crash once, but it generally works fine. I usually soft reset before using any utility such as this one....maybe i'm just paranoid, not sure.

THis is the ultimate in Duplicate Removers for Outlook

    Outlook Duplicates Remover

    http://www.slipstick.com/files/ODR5.EXE

It is FREE and does a good job, a little slow, but FranklinCovey sent it to me a year or so ago.

I had duplicate contacts. I deleted the dupes, synched - and there were 3 of most entries. I deleted the dupes, synched - and now there are 4 of most entries. Help! This gets worse and worse!

I am synching to Outlook from a 650 on Sprint. I didn't have this trouble until I was given a new hard disk by my corporate IS people...

    ??!!

    Thanks

See if you got more than one instance of Outlook running? CTRL+ALT+DEL>Processes>Click image name, look for outlook.exe there should only be 1 running. Also give a program called undupe a try.

I use undupe and while it removes most (but not all dups), my dups
come back regardless of what I do.

I set my Treo650 on my home computer and did the initial sycing that way.

About 3 weeks ago, I went on a business trip, and started using my laptop. During that time, the new Verizon ROM update came out and I did that. During that time, and about 15-20 hard resets and restores(from SD Memory) during the 3 weeks, I'm back, and tried hotsyncing with my home computer again.

Duplicate user names are not permitted. The user, 'blah blah', already exists on this PC.

If you still wish to perform a HotSync operation between this handheld and this PC, you must rename the existing 'blah blah' user on the Palm OS Desktop by selecting the User Dialog on the Tools Menu.

And then my Treo 650 immediately resets!

This Treo 650 really pisses me off...

Anybody have any idea? I have no idea how to get around this with still keeping my data.

If the data on your Treo is what you want to keep, change or delete the user on the desktop (Tools/Users/Rename or Delete) and Hotsync.

If the data on the desktop is what you want to keep, hard reset your Treo and Hotsync.

This is a huge, huge problem with me and has been since my earliest days using the Palm OS. What is so blessed hard about NOT duplicating contacts. Every Palm product I have ever had has caused duplicate contact entries - sometimes en masse, sometimes on seemingly random contacts. Why does this keep happening ? The only way I have EVER been able to fix the problem is to turn off the syncing of contacts once I have purged duplicate entries. Why do I need to PURCHASE a third party program like Undupe when this is a basic, ongoing problem with either the operating system or overlayed software? This issue has gone on with Palm for YEARS now...we had the same basic string in VisorCentral years ago...I just don't understand.

I have only one version of Outlook running...I have never heard a good explaination of WHY this happens...or what anyone but the people at UnDupe are doing about it...

    I seem to remember something...

When you delete the dupes in Outlook, make sure you empty out the "deleted" folder as well

what is the easiest way to get rid of them?

    <merged multiple threads>

Do you hotsync your contacts to the Palm Desktop or MS Outlook? Are the contacts duplicated in the Palm Desktop or Outlook? If not then right click your your hotsync icon > Custom > Contacts > Change > Select Desktop overrides Handheld > Click Ok > Click Done > connect your Treo and Hotsync.

This is only if you don't want to install another software. Otherwise, there are third party software solutions.

Please see postings above for suggestions.
