Hi, I'm running Snappermail Enterprise Edition, am able to download email from my POP-based ISP, but haven't figured out how to downoad email from my AOL account.

    The settings I've tried:
    POP3 server: imap.aol.com
    username: (my username on aol)
    password: (my password on aol)

then I click on the "more" button at the bottom of the page

    pop3 settings
    port 143
    use apop authentication--not checked
    use cram-md5 authentication--not checked
    pull-down menu: always secure--wrapped port
    always trust server--checked

    smtp settings
    port 587
    pop before send-not checked
    pull-down menu: always secure--wrapped port
    always trust server--checked

When I try these settings, the "Receiving" message goes from "Connecting" to "Securing" and then won't go any further (gets stuck).

Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong, what settings I need to use to make this work?

    Thanks!

Do not secure, that's the problem. The only email I know that needs to be secured is Gmail.

Here's what the settings should be:
    AOL
This information requires (for IMAP capability) that you have SnapperMail Enterprise edition installed on your device. In your SnapperMail server account settings (Menu | Accounts | Edit Accounts | (choose account) | Server), enter the following:
    IMAP Server: imap.aol.com
    Username: your AOL screen name
    Password: your AOL password
    SMTP Server: smtp.aol.com
    Username: your AOL screen name
    Password: your AOL password
Tap the "More..." button in the server account settings. In that window, enter the following:

    POP3 SETTINGS:
    Use Port: 143

    SMTP SETTINGS:
    Use Port: 587
"A man who drinks only water, has something to hide to his fellow man."

appreciate the quick response but not there yet

    pop3 settings: port 143
use apop authentication -- not checked
use cram-md5 authentication -- not checked
    pull-down menu -- no security

    smtp settings: port 587
pop before send -- not checked
    pull-down menu -- no security

with these setings, goes to "connecting" then I get "send or receive did not complete successfully" message...

It looks to me as though you are setting it up as a POP3 account. You should be doing this as an IMAP4 account.

in snappermail, the only option is to enter server into a field that is labeled
    pop3 server

into the open field next to the "pop3" label, I type:
    imap.aol.com

    any other suggestions?

Are you sure that you are using the Enterprise Edition??
In Snappermail>menu>accounts>new account> here you should get a pop up "create a POP3 or an IMAP4 account?" Do you see that?
    Now select IMAP4:
    Your Name: your name
    Email address: username@aol.com

    Server tab:
    Incoming Mail:
    IMAP4 Server: imap.aol.com
    Username: username
    Password: password

    Outgoig Mail:
    SMTP Server: smtp.aol.com
    Password: password

    then tap on "more":
    IMAP4 settings:
    Use Port: 143
    "no SSL security"

    SMTP settings:
    Use Port: 587
    "no SSL security

    Done!

I was having that same problem... i looked at aol's mobile page and noticed that they have 2 options for smtp:

You can use port 587 as described above (no security settings selected)

    OR

You can use port 25 as described above (no security settings selected)

    Hope that helps.
It might have something to do with Tzones blocked ports. But all I know is that it worked.

I'm thinking of finally jumping from Versamail (which oddly enough has not given me problems) to Snappermail. I'm using Gmail now, but probably need to set up a second account on AOL mail for work.

Will Snappermail Standard or Premiere work with AOL as a POP account? Or does AOL only support IMAP and therefore I will have to use the Enterprise edition?

    Thanks,

    Matt

You should look at ChatterEmail. Cheaper and far more robust with IMAP (including push, background operation, etc...)
