wierd...anyone else see this? I am using Palm's Screen Protectors and the unit does not respond to taps.

It is possible that the protector is right under the edge of the frame around the screen. The frame will be tight enough for the protector to be pushed down and the screen thinks it is being 'taped' there.

But I guess if this was the case I am not sure anythign would work (buttons or screen)

Have you recalibrated the touchscreen via the preferences panel since installing the screen protector? What you've described is a commonplace result that can easily be cleared up that way if you haven't done that yet.
