I called my home insurance company and they won't give me a rider for my T650, so I am considering switching to another.

What home insurance providers will give a rider for a T650? How much did you lucky guys pay?

    Thanks!

you don't need a rider especially for the treo. It should be covered under electronics, or computer property.

    read through you insurance policy

Do any home insurance companies give riders? I'm willing to switch!

The first time you try to file a trivial claim for a Treo for $500, they will raise your rates.
so I am considering switching to another.
Why on earth would someone select an insurance policy based on whether or not they cover a Treo. Seems that how they cover the home is far more important selection criteria.

From my experience, one home insurance policy is very similar to another. You select a deductable and what you want covered, period. Do you think 1 car insurance company is much better than another? Sure you'll get different rates, but in the end you're covered.

I'm still looking for someone who has gotten a rider.

State Farm has a "Personal Articles" policy that cost me $30... Totally separate from the homeowner's insurance.

What you are asking for is called a Personal Articles policy and it is actually separate from your Homeowners policy. I have State Farm and they require that you to have a Homeowners policy with them in order to get a Personal Articles policy. According to my agent, any claims against my Personal Articles policy will not affect my Howerowners policy. The cost is only $4/year (~$1 per $100)! Unfortunately, the minimum policy is $30/year, so we just added our camera and laptop to the policy to take advantage of the $3,000 of coverage provided by the $30/year. By the way, my deductible is $0.

From what I've been told (by a State Farm rep), coverage from companies like State Farm only covers theft. It does not cover damage or defects like Sprint/Lockline coverage.

I've never lost a PDA. Never had one stolen either. Have had defects and damage.

(Although some are saying different I heard that any Personal Articles coverage is "sort of" connected to your Homeowners policy although seperate. Which is why you need a Homeowners policy to get the coverage. So if you file a claim it may affect all your business with them given it is on your record. And a $0 deductable....that's new...and sort of odd.)

I think people with these policies will know the "real" truth when they file a claim.

I agree with mhzimmer. I have a personal articles policy with State Farm above and beyond my homeowners that covers jewelry, my laptop, my gps, my treo, my ipod. I do a long motorcycle trip every summer, and last summer my gps was stolen off the bike while I ate breakfast. I called and had a check 5 days later. A really easy process. I don't know if it covers breakage, but I would guess that it does. I think it costs me $150/yr (or so) for everything including a lot of jewelry.

I too have the state farm policy - very nice as claims have no effect on homeowners insurance rates or claim history. If the phone is lost, stolen or damaged i get a check for replacement value, which is nice considering if I do have to make a claim I can apply the funds to a newer model Treo if one is available at the time.

USAA, normally I have a $500 deductable but I added a rider for all my computers $8,000 worth. 2 PCS, 2 Laptops and 2 Treos for $26 a year. $100 Deductable. Much cheaper than carrier insurance and no hassles with USAA. Covers everything! Loss, theft, damage. (And no they won't raise my rates or bump me with a claim)

I just looked USAA up and is that for members of the Armed Forces only? Do you have a phone number for your USAA?

Depending on what u're looking to cover. I scheduled all my camera and notebook equipment with my home insurance. Depending on ur ins. co, it's about $2/$100. Scheduled items are covered for all risks. If u drive over ur Treo with ur car, it's covered. What they do is, they'll buy u a new Treo, they won't give u a check/cash however.

There is no deductable with scheduled items. Usually people will also schedule jewlery.
