I am new to the treo 650 world and I am trying to compile a list of apps that I need to purchase once I receive my phone. I have read countless threads about people saying how much they dislike this or that. I need some opinions on Versamail-Chattermail-Aileronmail-Snappermail. I have found that Versa-Chatter-Snapper have lots of problems. Is it so with all the people? How about Aileron? It seems to be consistent enough in its features & functions. I found this link for which indicates it is good enough.

Pls post only for above all and not any other apps.
    Thnks in advance.

The question is virtually meaningless. You might as well ask people which religion they recommend.

Agreed with Marc. The features, interfaces and usability are in some cases so completely different it would be ludicrious to just even try to make an attempt to compare them. Besides: each of the mentioned programs serves a totally different audience, with only minimal overlap.

VersaMail-If you are Microsoft d-rider, and enjoy crashes, among other things
SnapperMail-acceptable POP3 mail retrival, low battery impact, scheduling
Aileron-No idea. Sounds substandard, since I've been using Palm devices since 1998... never heard of it before.
Chatter-positively AWESOME, Blackberry like IMAP "push" email implentation.
    HEAVY battery impact...
    Hope this helps.

I would limit your search to:

    1) Chatter if you want/need push and can handle the battery hit

    2) Snapper if you want a more tradition POP/IMAP program

I think both have demos available.

Versamail, if you're into tight integration w/ MS Outlook
  8. #8
Versamail's advertised features would be great if they worked. I bought version 2.5 (or was it 2.6?) for my Treo 600 and loved it. Version 3.0 that's on the 650 is killing me! It crashes the device and won't delete emails off the server (I have all the appropriate boxes checked, I think).

    And I can't over-ride version 3.0 with version 2.5. (Yes, I tried.)

If you can get 3.0 to work, have at it. And if anyone knows and tricks or quick prayers that I might use to get mine back to palatable, I'd love the help.

Chatter works better for my needs - it syncs with my IMAP server and pushes email if/when I want. I also found it ot have a better user interface.

I reduce the above noted battery impact by simply going offline when I don't need the email push (e.g., sitting in my office).

It so depends on what you want it for.
I have Chatter, Snapper, and cingular XPress mail.
I use XPress mail with work's outlook, but merely for it's ability to get mail from Exchange through a firewall, otherwise it's not a good mail app. Before I had this I used an exchange filter to redirect my mail to an IMAP and used Chatter.
Chatter is the best IMAP mail program.
Snapper is the best POP mail program (also does IMAP now,) which is what I use with my Yahoo Mail.

Until Yahoo goes IMAP, I'm stuck with Snapper. Then I'd switch over to Chatter.

So what's the best that does POP and IMAP that's Snapper.
What's the best IMAP only? I'd have to say Chatter.

Do what we all do and use them all during the trial periods and pick the one you likem ost.

My preference is Chatter for IMAP.. it has been an excellent program and Snapper for POP... though I find myself forwarding my pop account so I can also get it pushed to my phone via chatter...so I don't use Snapper as much now.
