A few weeks after I received my Treo 650 (Nov 2004) it started showing very slight signs of a stress crack. This is what it looks like four months later (March 2005):

I received a replacement Treo 650 yesterday- the "P" key stopped working on the old one (above). I didn't notice any cracks when I removed the new one (below) from the box however it is possible that I just did not look close enough.

Less then 24 hours later this is what the new one looks like. An ever so slight but definite stress crack has developed overnight. All by itself!

Of course I always handle my Treo with kid gloves- Although I despise it's quirks I still love it. I use the IPOD case to protect it.

I dropped the old one a few times- however no signs of any damage appeared after any one of the heart stopping drops.

The new one has never even received as much as a slight tap. I received it- synced it- applied my brand new "Martin Filds" screen protector and then applied my brand new "eGrips" It hasn't even left my house. I have not even made a single call on it yet. Does the Treo Stress Fairy visit overnight? WTF?

    Anyone else?

    Sounds very unusual...

Wow, that's crazy. I have never seen that, on any mobile phone, for that matter. I mean...I've seen wooden doors warp in the winter time, but this takes the cake. My guess is that it's either a ghost or a very bitter, very passive-aggressive, significant other.

hey man....sorry bout all that...I treat my phone like a little baby too...but I don;t go through all the trouble of protecting it with all that crap. I don't have a cover and I don't even have a screen protector. I simply just slip it in my jean pockets and go. I've had the same phone since they first came out. (november?) Maybe you should try taking all the junk away...
    just a thought...

It sure looks like it was either dropped or possibly crushed somehow... just doesn't look like a stress crack to me.

It's hard to tell from the picture, but is that really a crack, or just a scratch in the surface?

looks like the earpiece side of the treo 650, the one thats pointed out a little is being pressed way too hard....

if I remember, the clip on the ipod case is centered and high up. if you've been carrying it in that case, any pressure to the back of the treo would get transmitted to the earpiece, which is then pressed against the clip... crack!

My father has a crack developing on the right hand side plastic that runs down the side of the screen. He babies that device and has only had it for a few weeks. His is a Cingular phone, in the event that it matters. This is really an unfortunate development, as I have been looking forward to receiving mine, but I don't like carrying them in a case. I prefer to just slip it into my pocket. I am becoming more likely to sell this thing by the day...as soon as it gets here.

    Thanks Vienna Channels.

I have not read or heard of this before! I had stress crack issues on the old Prism, and it was replaced by Handspring, but never heard of this on the 600 or 650 untill now.

I did get a stress crack in my old Visor Prism. But it was just one crack that came after about a year of use. I don't know I could have dropped it or something. Anyway, when I got my T300 I passed it on to another family member who still uses it with no problems...

Maybe this will be explained in an episode of The Outer Limits .

I think Craig must have unusually large, strong ears.

That is very strange, but if he is putting it in a case that's too small for it, that may be the culprit.
