what i really want is a standard customizeable format ... where all i have to do is use standard pic/etc that i sized to fit for a back ground.. load that in.. and there be a standart button layout ready to go that can be modified on the skinner desktop for diff fonts.. size.. and color... to make this simple...
so i can make a skin quick and easily... shouldnt be too hard to make it do that.

What I plan to do is add a couple of keypad bitmaps that can be easily used for adding a background (e.g. there is a lot of transparent pixels). I also have some other nice ideas but as I don't know when or whether we will implement them I won't go into details.

Anyway, keypad images designed to have a background should be a step forward. I'm also pushing to have alpha blending in Skinner Desktop. Combined this should really make it easy to create backgrounded skins.

For now, you could load a white bitmap for the buttons and create the keypad texts the way you want them (color/size/thickness). Then putting a background image into the skin can be done by Skinner Desktop. Take a look at http://skinner.79bmedia.com/skinner650/skins.html for some skins that have this kind of text-only button (allowing the background to be very good visible).

But still, for the very best effects you require special tools (fading, overlay algorithms, etc). Putting all of these tools into Skinner Desktop is not possible or a good idea, anyway

I've uploaded the probably last beta of Skinner Desktop 3.2 (#6) at

This includes some minor bugfixes, but most importantly it has a couple of additional files that may be helpful:
    • 10 page PDF with instructions on e.g. how to create custom skins with a background image
    • Template projects for Photoshop and GIMP
    • Sample dialpads

I used some prc manipulation programs to create resource files for the icons that I edited (crosshair, contacts & VM buttons). And then appended the resource files to the .pdb skin I originally created.

There are some other icons that I can change. Below is a list of what they are:

Blazer globe, blazer bookmark, phone hang-up, phone speaker phone (On/Off), phone hold, phone mute (On/Off).

I think there are some others but I am still exploring those options.

If someone had the time, I would love to see a Harley Davidson theme. I haven't had the time yet to learn to create these. I plan on it in the future. I would even pay a few $$ for the Harley theme.

Do you have any specific Harley pics you want in the theme? Or any preference to how the buttons look?

If you supply me with this info I could make one. Or you can leave it up to me..I'm sure I can come up with something pretty cool.

I like the Harley shield. But a theme with bikes as buttons would be cool as well. I would like the bikes to be custom style as opposed to a Road King.
Your work seems to be very creative. I think I could live with your creativity as well.

    Thanks,

    John,

What do you think about this one? I'm not sure I like the way the orange buttons came out. They might look better gray and orange highlight..what's your opinion?

    Cal,

That looks great to me. I like the orange speed buttons. My bike is orange. I didn't think you would have it done that fast or I would have stayed on longer last night.

    Thanks,

    John

Thanks, It looks cool on the phone. I have put Takephone in ROM and have been using it. I now have disabled most of the features so your skin will displays with the phone app instead of dialing from Takephone.

    Thanks again,

Do you have a PayPal account?

    You are very welcome!

    My paypal account is: jason@breez.tv

If you want, you can send a donation...but I really am not asking for anything.

Do you want a custom location "Crosshair" icon for this skin? I forgot about that when creating it. Unfortunately since the image file is so small, I am limited to what I can display for the location icon. Most of the images are hard to see at such small resolution..but I can try
