I think that you have confused Voice Dialer from Grover Industries with Voice Dial from Voice Signals which is the one that comes on the treo 650 CD and Palmone.

Bad wording on my part.....more aptly said, it's quite amazing that VoiceDialer (by Grover) is getting so many downloads when the VoiceDial (by Voice Signal) comes on the Palm CD and is pushed on the PalmOne site. Then again, it doesn't give us much info on which one we are keeping and which one we are tossing after the trial period.

Why is Butler so popular? I've read a lot of posts claiming it causes lockups.

Butler was narrowed down by quite a few of us as the culprit for hotsync and other crashes. Not sure if it's fixed in the most recent version, but deleting it virtually eliminated crashes on my 650.

After watching this great thread for a while, I'm finally jumping in here. As others have said, this is the best "what are your favorite apps?" thread because many other threads have users that each list 20 apps or more, making it difficult to sort through everything and see what's REALLY indispensable for people.

    Anyway, here I go:

    1. Pocket Tunes -- tough to beat and used for hours a day.
    2. Bhajis Loops -- INCREDIBLE app for all you music producers/songwriters out there. Simply amazing.
    3. Card Export -- helps me avoid the "take out-put in-take out-put in" thing I would have to go through if I used a card reader. Slower, but too convenient to lose.
    4. Butler -- reminders/alerts, alarms, and Launch Anywhere feature are things I can't do without.
    5. The Core Media Player (TCPMP) -- in the not-too-distant future, this may become one of the more popular apps for Treo users (already wildly popular as judged by the number of forums and threads that are talking about it). Its ability to handle just about any audio/video codec (other than DRM'd and .wmv files) and do it WELL can make this a real force to be reckoned with. And watch out if its audio functions are ample enough -- one app to handle both music and video needs, and do it well? I can only dream. But hey, even in pre-alpha phase it has made my list. (note: the direct URL to TCMP was not provided because the developer's site times out when trying to connect, possibly from server overload).
    6. ZLauncher -- too many useful functions for me to do without it.

And since someone brought it up, here are my choices in the free/donationware category (all available at MTDN):
    1. KeyCaps -- very convenient for emails/text messaging
    2. SoundRec -- I mainly use this to quickly record song ideas that pop into my head, then use Bhajis loops to actually write the song
    3. MovieRec -- just fun
    4. eReader -- I sometimes read eBooks during my train commute if I'm not in Bhajis Loops
    5. PowerUp -- turns radio back on after soft reset, and then launches one of your preferred apps automatically
    6. LedOff -- extensive control of the LED

I second Bhajis Loops and The Core Media Player. These are two of the most amazing programs. They really show off the power of the 650 and more importantly grately improve my enjoyment of it.
