Can anyone else offer any additional clarification? Is this AIM over SMS? Is this just AOL? Is this a Sprint thing?

I have an unlocked GSM 650 in Australia and have been eager to get "AOL Instant Messenger" capabilities, but am not interested in using software that has a proxy or subscription. Is this it? Or is this just a miscommunication?

There's still an old AIM.prc file floating around somewhere from years ago that still works. In fact, I just tried it on my Treo 650 unlocked GSM on Optus Australia with no problems.

I think this is it here: http://freepages.misc.rootsweb.com/~hunt/palm/

Can you check the about box and let me know what version? I have 1.1 and/or 1.2 lying around but have been afraid to test. I'll do a backup now and test...

As far as I know, that for as long as I have had Sprint PCS service, over 6 years, the AOL IM application has been built into my phones. I have always had PCS Vision service so as long as I entered the AOL IM site with my username and password that I obtained for free on aol.com, I have had the service. No subscription fees or special obligations. I have never had an AOL subscription.

I can't comment on GSM carriers services or the applications installed on those phones but this seems to be a Sprint thing, even though I have not read other Sprint Treo 650 users comment on their uses of AOL IM. All I know is that my Treo 650 for Sprint has working AOL IM and Yahoo IM built in, they both work, and I am happy......it's like a Treo Sidekick.... LOL.

Bob's Alarm - Pretty much for the timers. Awesome and simple.
    FileZ
    LightWav - MP3 ringers.
pTunes Deluxe 3.0.3 - Shoutcast of one of my favorite DJ's from college.
PXA Clocker - Needed to speed up some large databases.
SplashID - Very useful is the Desktop version. Easy to buy things online.
Verichat - Awesome when you are stuck at an airport.

Another advantage to DA is that once you look up the info you can add it directly to you contacts.

    Give it a go.

I would have to say, in no particular order:
    - TAKEphONE
    - 2day
    - Agendus
    - MonthPlanner
    - Directory Assistant
    - SplashID

    Honorable mentions include:
    - KeyCaps 600
    - 3XCom
    - Acid-Image Pro
    - Audacity Pro
    - BackupMan
    - Cardkeeper

SO MANY MORE...MUST STOP MYSELF FROM TYPING...

I would have added an email app but I still haven't found one I really like yet. The search continues.

DA (Directory Assistance) can be found here:
    http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/showt...threadid=43592

Looks up tel #'s, reverse lookup, maps and allows you to add the addresses/tel #'s to your contacts.

    Give it a go.

I think this is one of its best "sleeper" features. I've added the likes of:

    China Gourmet
    John's Pizza
    Fresco Tortilla

    ...you get the idea

I'm a huge LauncherX fan - and by the way the latest 'fix' for the center key is just great!
I only am allowed 50 Text Messages a month or I get billed for each additional, so will Verichat burn through my 50 TMs fast? Is there a way to use it as an AIM account?

As far as LauncherX, I originally started with ZLauncher and didn't like it, so I changed to PowerRun and I'm pretty happy. I just wish I could move more applications to the SD card though. What makes LauncherX so good?

    Forgot to list my 6:
    1. Chatteremail-It's working nicely since the last patch
    2. Directory Assistant-Thanks to this baby I found out there were actually two Dominos located in a close proximity to work!
    3. PowerRun-It's been stable for me, but I'm tempted to try LauncherX.
    4. BackupBuddyVFS
    5. DocsToGo-I love to have my Word docs and a few Excel budget sheets on me at all times.
    6. This one will either be PTunes or a solid video player. I'm almost to the point where I'll buy Kinoma Player and Producer. My PTunes demo expired and I'm on the fence.

Sorry, I have a 600, but I wanted to particpate in the fun. Here is
my list (in base 5, I think that's what you asked for) Right Tiffany?

    01) Agendus Pro (but I wouldn't load their email)
    02) PTunes 3
    03) Xiino (I can't read books from my Safari subscription using Blazer
on the Treo 600. If that works on the 650, then I'd load ShadowPlan
    instead.)
    04) BackupMan (on the 600, maybe another brand backup on 650?)
    05) Klondike (sorry, I can't live without some mindless fun)
    10) A program that allows me to launch more apps from SDIO card.
(If a launcher is not allowed, I'd choose TakePHone instead.)

BTW: Tiffany, I miss your old picture.
    I'm both super! ... and a doer!
