I'm trying to get a 371 MB file to play but it isn't working...just locks up the Treo and I give up after several minutes.

I have Braveheart on my card and it's 298MB. It plays fine but that's not quite as big as your file. What kind of card are you using? Is it fast? I have a 60x ATP.

Lexar 1 GB...it isn't labeled but I've been told they clock at 32x.

    How do you test it?

Increase the video (or audio) buffer and try again. If it still crashes when the buffers are several MB each, feel free to send a short clip to support@mmplayer.com and we'll try to see what's wrong.

If it were a shorter clip, I doubt I'd have a problem!

Its a 4 hour long broadcast of the Orange Bowl rout of Oklahoma

I play 400-500 mb files all the time with no problem.

I would think you encoded it with a bitrate that's too high. what's the bitrate? how many FPS?

Make sure you have enough free mem as well. For me, things start failing when I have less than 3.9M free. Not sure the length matters as it just reads into the buffer, displays the buffer, and reads again.
