Hi everyone. I am new to the boards and am considering purchasing a 600 with Verizon (I don't know how much longer I want to wait for the 650). Can the 600 be set for distinctive ringtones for certain incoming calls? Thanks

Not on its own. You'd need something like Ringo, mRing, LightWav...

Let me correct this. You can select individual .mid ringtones without any extra program.

I'm so used to dealing with mp3 files, which is what the above programs would address that I just automatically think in those terms. So it depends on what kind of files you'd use.

Go to Favorites (Phone and then up on navigator button)
    Select unused favorite.
    Set to SpeedDial a number
Click More button in lower right
Select ringtone (you can also set an image as well)

Go to TreoTones.com or other places to get additional Midi rings. Email them to yourself or download directly in Web browser.

One thing I noticed they don't have, and I've had a hard time finding at all, is ring tones that sound like a regular phone. The only ring tone that came with my 600 that I can stand is the short ring, and that's a little annoying. Aren't there any normal ringers anymore?

Do files get embarrassed when they get unzipped?

Loud Phone sounds pretty "normal" to me.

I think there's a large and unmet demand for regular, "land-line" sounding ringtones. I'd like to see it as it's own section on a ringtone site, I think it'd be somewhat popular.

Could we paint our Treos Black and get big rotary dials on them??

I have the mp3 "Old Telephone" that sounds like the old rotary dial phones. A true irony when people hear an old fashion phone ringing while staring at a $500 cutting edge telephone. I tried to upload it but it tells me it is an invalid file type. I'll email it somewhere for you.

To address this thread's originator, yes the Treo can be configured in the general way you've indicated. More specifically, you can assign regular ringtones (the ones that play on your Treo without 3rd party software) to individual callers via your favorites. Edit one of your favorites > create a favorite type, label it, assign the number and a quick-key if you want > click the "More" button and assign a ringtone and/or and image to this phone number.

You can also play mp3 files for specific phone numbers, categories of contacts or individual contacts (and all their contact numbers rather then just one phone number at a time). This requires third party software to control the assignment of the mp3 to the contacts and an app to play the mp3. Its easier then I'm making it sound. Try PocketTunes and CallFilter. PocketTunes (which should have come with your T600) plays the mp3 automatically when you assign mp3 to your contacts in CallFilter. For example, I have a group of golfing friends for which I've created a contact category named "Gophers". I have assigned certain mp3 files to play when a contact within the Gopher category calls me. Whenever any of these 10+ people call me from any of their contact phone numbers, a Caddyshack mp3 will play. Does this make sense?
