Is it worth upgrading to ZLauncher version 5.11 from the previous version for the Treo 650?

    yes

The thing I am most excited about in this release is the Today Plugin has been updated to 1.02. With this update (although not specifically addressed in the update readme) the speed of the plugin has been increased.

They do mention a fix regarding the plugin that relates to other software utilization of the db while today is using it, but they don't mention the speed increase.

I don't think they ever recognized the speed as an issue. I am not sure, but it looks as if they updated the plugin to use the new db instead of the older backwards compatible one. Makes sense as I don't keep datebookdb on my machine and the today plugin works.

    ZZTechs are pretty sharp.

The Snails issue is still there. It's the only game I can't move to the SD card because it will get screwed up and refuse to run eventually.

I still have plenty of memory thanks to the other games running from the SD card and some apps in a custom ROM, but still.

I just purchased zLauncher on the 17th of Feb. Shouldn't I get a free update/upgrade? Is there any support to get this information? You would think that they would approve an upgrade to 5.11.

Help me see the facination with this program - I downloaded it and immediately felt it too busy. Have tried Hi-Lancher and Launcher X and so far like the functionality of Hi-Launcher as my primary use is to launch applications without going through all icons. I like the graphics of Launcher X but don't like that you have to tap the icon you want to open, would rather use the 5-way.

What would make ZLauncher a better choice?

dutchtrumpet is right. If you look at the updated description you will see it says, "This version is a free upgrade for ZL5 users. Just simply install this version onto your device over the old version." The only upgrade that ZZTechs has charged for is going from version 4 to 5.

Thank you all. I should read the fine print I am still having issues with zztechs and my registration. They can not find my email address that I purchased the sw from. I sent them the email from Handango and everything. I was sent the reg number in my email but it displayed an INVALID message. Performed the "CheckUserId" from zztechs and sent them to them as well. I am still waiting to get my reg straightened out.

I felt the same way when I first tried out ZLauncher -- thought it looked too busy for me. But there are numerous themes you can use and customizations you can do to make it look more simple like LauncherX. That's what I did (see attached). ZL's most useful feature is the ability to move apps and their databases to the card and run them from there. Definitley a great memory saver feature.

So give ZL another try and check out different themes and take some time to do some customizations under the "ZL Preferences" and "Tab Properties." You'll get the look and feel you want.

He's right, you need to customize it. Here's mine, which is toned way down to just tabs, a status bar, and background images. (Yes, I have a lot of games ) I never used all the toolbars because I rarely use the stylus with it. Only having three categories plus the ability to manually order the icons means using it with the 5-way is very fast. Plus I can hide the apps I don't use or have assigned to the hard keys.

The default you get when you first install it is kind of ugly. You definitely should spend some time playing with the options, since there are a lot of ways you can set it up.

I LOVE the way I have ZL set up - it is SO flexible in how you can set everything up, I had to do a full restore, and it took me a couple hours to get it back "perfect". Here's a couple shots, but I think it's sharp! Granted, taste is different, so everyone will like something different, and that's the biggest draw to Zlauncher.

Theme is CobaltOS5 (and the purple is really a nice blue - not purple).

I have to admit I was not impressed at first with ZL5 on the T600. However as the others have stated with a little customization it really is quite a nice app. Heres mine:

See, where would you be without your Palm? You'd be missing Buffalo Wild Wings $0.30 Wings, that where.

Well, I've been playing with this all day and must say I am now quite impressed. Thank you all for your examples!

Do all the custom skins have the phone signal bars built into them?
