I have used backupman to restore from a hard reset with my 650 and had endless reset loops when trying to sync to my desktop. I had plenty of memory when I backed up. It seems having the radio on while backing up corrupted the backup. Had to re-install every app from scratch. Switched to BBVFS 3.07 from advice by others in this forum. Haven't experimented yet. Will see.

    My own story.
I have both backupman & backup buddy
BackupBuddy desktop decided to restore a previous backup ( like from a month ago) pretty much deleting everything from my treo. I tried restore from BackupBuddy vfs ( palm version) and it didnt work right. before backup I have 7.2 free and after it was .02 . Kept getting low memory loop. I restored from Backupman with no issues so far.

I have read a post or two of backupbuddy desktop version restoring on it own and i now believe it. Completly destroyed my treo . I haev the desktop version shut off for now.

Works perfectly for me. Used it on the GSM 600 and downloaded Rev.2.12. I have backed up and restored several times. I have a 256 SD card with 93.5 MB stored.

I use Botzam Backup. It works perfectly. I swear by it.
I found it because I bought one of those "Backup Cards" from PalmOne when I bought my 600 and Botzam is what came on. I have since bought the update version from their site.

No two Treos are alike - how sad is that?
I too have the BT patches and Backupman always fails to restore these files. Does anyone know if backupbuddy does the same thing?

A basic question - Why do I need a backup program other than the HotSync program which comes with the Treo? Doesn't that save (and restore if needed) everything on my Treo? I don't travel, so don't need to restore data when I'm away from my desktop computer. What's the deal?

Incase hotsync fails. I've had it happen to me before and good thing I had Backupman.

Its also a convenience thing - if you backup to your SD card, and something happens while you are away from your PC (like at dinner or something), you can hard reset your Treo and be back up and running in under 1 minute flat. If you get BackupBuddyVFS and a fast write card, a backup takes less than 30 seconds, and a restore in under a minute. Pretty handy.

I've had BB for Windows decide on it's own that it need to restore my Treo instead of backing it up, again with no warning and no notice. I lost a days worth of email and multiple miscelaneous updates as a result.

So I'd say NO, there's no backup solution for the T650 that's really trustworthy and reliable.
I had BBVFS fail on a restore last night. It got half way through and then did a soft reset. I tried teh restore again and it seemed to take. However, it did NOT restore my Mergic VPN settings at all. Thus I have to wait to get my IT guys to provide me with that info again. Any suggestions or ideas as to why BBVFS didn't restore the VPN settings?

I've read in other posts that BackupMan works better if the radio is turned off. I've restored a couple of times w/ my 650 (withOUT doing a radio-off backup first) and generally had trouble restoring the MIDI file - not sure if I would have had the same issue with the radio off.

    Backup Buddy VFS user,

Have you encountered error in backing up the SMS message 2 file? I keep getting an error that it can't back it up after I send a few SMS

Honestly I've yet to send an SMS message (ever), so I haven't experienced this issue yet.

How well does it work with the Treo 650? With the NVFS other programs like Backupbuddy seems to fail in most cases. So far I use Tealbackup but I exclude files like "shim.log" which errors during backing.

I agree with damigs, I have tried Card Backup with the Treo 650 and it did not work like the Treo 600. I just tried the latest version of Botzam, worked like a charm. Everything restored after a hard reset, including calander, contacts and all settings. Off to buy it now.

teal backup works great! only thing it does not restore is midi ringtones. but I think that is because there may be a corrupt tone....

I agree Teal Backup so far has been my main winner when it comes to backing up and restoring. In some cases I have done full restores and everything has come back as the way it was backed up. I will give Botzam a shot. I hear the new one works well with T650. Lets just hope it doesnt corrupt what I have. Wish me luck. LOL

Well I installed the lastes Botzam 2.12 and performed backup. Half way thru my phone decided to reset. After it doing this I completely removed Botzam and will stick to Tealbackup. Guess all treo 650's are different. Some work and some dont.

i've been using backupman, since my kyo7135, and it works fine on the 650 too.
i have had to restore from backup several times on the 650, and each time it has been perfect. i normally have about 4mb of space left on the handheld.

    i'm using v1.52b5
