Upgraded from T600 to T650. Installed new desk top. First hotsync lost 650 ring tones corrupted versa mail, possably lost 650 color theams. Ring tones replaced by old 600 ring tones. Fixed vesa mail with file Z deleated corrupted files. Any ideas on getting my 650 ring tones back? Not sure what all has been lost. P1 continuous hold, non english speaking, cut you off service, not working for me!

Check the Backup and Archive folders in your HotSync profile directory which can be found in your HotSync profile directory.

Alan, Is this directory on the hand held or on my desk top? What is the path to get to it? So far I have not been able to find it.

Have a look at the upgrade guide from P1 support.

Ok I found my way there. Duh! back up: system_midi_sounds or system_Ring_Tones. I believe these files are modified and contain my old treo600 ring tones. I looked in archive and found a file named mmu upgrade. I assume that a file named sytem ring tones would be what I am looking for. My concern is that they are gone. From what I understand when you install the new 650 desktop over the old 600 desktop that your 650 ring tones are supposed to overwrite the 600 ring tones. I my case, for some reason, it went the opposite way! Every time I hotsync it corrupts my versa mail even when do nothing is selected in the conduit. There was not a system ring tone file in archives. Earl

MarkEagle, If I load a new copy of the desk top, change my user name, and re sync do you think the treo 650 ring tones will be there? Or were they deleated on the first time around. I wouldn't mind doing all of that and re importing my contacts and calender files if I knew for sure I would get all the original 650 stuff back.

Reinstalling the desktop won't do you any good. A hard reset should restore everything to its out-of-the-box condition on the Treo. After that and BEFORE you hotsync, you need to rename your backup directory so that the old files aren't restored to the phone.

Sorry for the delay, but yes, the directory is on the handheld. It can be found off of your Palm Desktop install path. The typical location would be:

    c:\program files\palm\<your HS id>\backup or archive
