I started with ZLauncher but don't like the themes, so I'm wondering if people successfully use PowerRun to move apps to the card. I've seen many people list ZLauncher on their app list, so is there an advantage of ZLauncher over PowerRun?

    Thanks.

I was using PowerLauncher but I found that it was much slower than the App Mover application in Megalauncher. PoweLauncher also did not always "remember" what page I was on when switching to the phone....Megalauncher has been 100% right on every single time. I too did not like alll the "stuff" with ZLauncher including skins so I found Megalauncher easier interface than Zlauncher and much better and faster app mover than PowerLauncher.

Just out of curiosity, what was it about the ZL themes you didn't like? I've just been using the default for about a year now and guess I've gotten used to it.

BTW, nice camera MacUser - a Canon GL1?

Give powerRun a shot. Im content with the default palm user interface so I would never install something like ZLauncher. PowerRun allows you to run apps from your "main" screen while having all their data stored in the SD card. Its a beautiful thing.

I hate zlauncher. It adds very little useful stuff while adding a ton of bloat. The standard palm menu system is perfet, imho. I just complement it with powerrun and rescoe file explorer.

There is a fair amount of bloat in ZL. I'm not wedded to it, so I'll have to check out PowerRun. If it's functionally equal but saves ram, that's an advantage on the memory-starved 650

I didn't like the default or any of the 5 I downloaded and tried such as ZLiPalmTrialTheme, ZLT_Cliestandardb7, or zlx_v3.

Yeah, but I prefer my Sony VX-2000. I'm hoping to get one of those HD Sony cameras coming out this year that I saw on the QT broadcast of the Mac Expo this year.

I agree with you 100%. Have you ever tried SilverScreen? I heard about it and was wondering if it just enhances the default palm interface.

So, I have a number of apps moved to my card with ZLauncher. If I want to use PowerRun, what do I do about all the moved ZLaunder apps?! I really don't want to crash my 650. I have about 9MB left on the 650.

Doesn't LauncherX do the same thing? I mean let you move and run stuff from the SD card?

I haven't tried LauncherX yet, only ZLauncher and PowerRun. I got rid of ZLauncher and am now using PowerRun. I'll have to look into ZLauncher.

I am not downloading any of these launchers .

I have lot of stuff on SD card and i am happy with the original palm interface.
Silverscreen and Zlauncher's have a cheapo look compared to factory installed palm interface.
    So no way .......

I started out with ZLauncher, then went to PowerRun and back to ZLauncher. I managed to have some weird SD card corruption start showing up with PowerRun. After the 3rd time, I switched back to ZLauncher.

Something that helped tremendously was to put ZLauncher and a theme (along with Datebk5 and BackupBuddy) into the ROM (see http://www.shadowmite.com -- read the forums, take a look at the files). I have a bundle of stuff loaded onto the thing:

    AIPro
    BackupBuddy (now in ROM)
    CetusGPS
    DateBk5 (now in ROM)
    Diddlebug
Documents To Go Premium (the upgraded version -- used the Dataviz mover tool to put on card)
    Handzipper
    KBLightsoff
    Mapopolis 2.3
    MobileTS
    mSafe
    Mundu Interoperable Messenger
    Mergic VPN
    MyBible (Laridian with 7 translations)
    PalmVNC
    Pathaway GPS
    PowerUp 1.8
    PSSH
    SmbMate
    Snappermail Enterprise 2.2.2.01 (beta)
    Stock Manager
    TealDoc
    TealPaint
    ThoughManager
    ZLauncher (now in ROM)
...plus a reasonable subset of the things that come with the Treo 650 from PalmOne less the annoying garbage (Shadowmite Minimal ROM less VersaMail droppings)

I have about 8 years worth of date book data plus about 200 addresses. Lots of other stuff, memos, to-do's (funny how they keep stacking up when you don't do 'em), current emails and viagra spams w/attachments, etc.

12.4M left over in main memory.

    That good enough?

If you think ZLauncher has bloat, don't waste your time on Silverscreen! It has twice the bloat and fewer features.

As for the default Palm launcher, the one feature of these other launchers add that is a must have IMO is tabbed categories. I love a single click to get to the right program category, or better yet use the 5-way. I've also found by using a different "faded" background image for each category, you get easy to see visual indication of the cateories very rapidly. Here are a couple of examples:

i like powerun... the zlauncher is too bloated as said above. I've tested both

power run works great. small program too so it takes very little space.
    Palm III -> Sony Clie 73V + Sony Ericsson 610 -> Sony Ericcson P900 -> Nokia 6600 + IPAQ 4150 -> Treo 650 -> BenQ P50 -> Motorola Q -> Treo 755p -> HTC Titan (Sprint Mogul)

So, I'm planning on using PowerRun but have one question: how do I know which apps can be run from the SD card (other than trial and error)? Thanks.

I am afraid Powerrun makes the apps open slower than normal...not what I want them to do.

Does Zlauncher allow you to have 4-5 rows of large icons per page like LancherX does?
