I have no idea why but for some reason I applied one of Shadowmite's ROM to my Cingular phone. Well the ROM flashing went fine, my Treo is "fine" except for the fact that I can no longer get on the GSM network and that Sprint PCS splash screen is annoying me. Anyone with Cingular ROM I can reflash with? ~ purty please :shortcut:

    thanks

    This is a joke right?....

if not, the Shadowmight ROMs are for a Treo650 with a CDMA radio and you have a Treo600 with a GSM radio, they are apples and oranges to each other.
I don't know what to do unless you can get an app to reflash your GSM version.
SInce you used the SM ROM to put the SPrint stuff on, I assume that the loader works, so thanks for that test, but you still need to find the GSM ROM and it's can't be reverse engineered as far as I know. FOr example, the only way they got the OE SPrint ROM flash was from a SD card that had it that was left in a new Treo650 my mistake.

I WOULD EMAIL SHADOWMITE, but don't expect a solution, but at least he should know what will work and not work verse you trying things that peopel like me tell you too and have no idea what we are talking about when it comes to ROM/RAM and such (Well I know some, but just enough to be very dangerous).

If this is not a joke, man, sorry and hope you get it fixed soon.

    Keep us posted please.
    good luck, matt

bummer...what part of not got gsm phones did you not understand?

I don't think anyone has a gsm rom. Shadowmite's came from a palmone rom that was leaked by faisal. Not from a phone. Unless someone has a leaked cingular rom from palmone I think you are up a creek without proper means of locomotion.

And it's not like you can return it to Cingular, not with that "Welcome To Sprint" screen...

Although I'd like to see the expressions if you tried.

Alright, I have to ask, just what were you trying to accomplish with the ROM?

I can't help you, as there is no Cingular GSM ROM available. However, this is a great time to reiterate a past posting that people ought to heed...

I know this will sound a little condescending, but it isn't meant to be...it's meant to keep people from doing things that could damage their phones or spend money unnecessarily. You paid a lot of money for your Treo...you should treat it with due care and caution.

Please do not install software, hacks, or ROM updates without first understanding what you are doing, what the results are supposed to be, how to check to see if it installed properly, and how you can undo the process if something goes wrong.

Well if I can mess up the ROM enough that it no longer starts up at all I can return it. Bad ROMs out there I can reflash with? Any suggestions? :x

In a worste case scenario P1 should be able to re-flash your phone. You might need to pay for the repair (as I'm pretty sure they would consider applying the Shawdow ROM updater as warrenty voiding,) but if you begged, pleaded, and insisted I'm sure they would fix your phone and it will be a lot cheaper than buying a new one. Good luck.
Oh, so they have internet on computers now!

I went out and bought a 2005 H2, I supercharged the 6.0 in it. It was making mad power and I was on top of the world. Then my motor blew and can you believe that GM wants me to pay for a new motor!!

The point is YOU screwed up your phone. Now there are at least three things that you can do.
    1. Suck it up and use another phone until some figures out how to reflash your phone.
    2. Sell it for parts since it is screwed, though I think if you reflash, it will be fine.
    3. Toss you treo into your sock drawer and buy another one from Cingular, Just don't try to attempt a reflash on this one.
Why should cingular replace your phone? I think you should have to pay double retail for a new one. Maybe you will get it in your head that if you F**K something you are held responsible.

Now I didn't write this to flame you. I really think you should hold onto it untill YOU can fix it. I am sure you have another phone, use it. I just don't want to see the price of the Cingular/AT&T 650 go up in price even more because of careless mistakes. I know its only one but I am sure there will be others.

Again I am sorry that YOU fudged up YOUR phone. But learn from it, don't take the easy way out.

I think it clearly states on Shadowmite's website that the ROMs are for Sprint phones only. It's in clear bold red letters. WTF is wrong with you man?
    Palm III -> Sony Clie 73V + Sony Ericsson 610 -> Sony Ericcson P900 -> Nokia 6600 + IPAQ 4150 -> Treo 650 -> BenQ P50 -> Motorola Q -> Treo 755p -> HTC Titan (Sprint Mogul)

One other person that I know of did this already. You are out of luck, there is currently no gsm custom rom. I'm doing my best to create one, but I am lacking certain files needed to accomplish it. The palm side is identical and will work, as you discovered, but the modem firmware you flashed is the problem. We do not have a original firmware to re-install. You could easily re-flash the rom with the cingular splash instead of the sprint one, but it won't fix it.

There is a way to completely kill the phone if that's what you want, but I'm not going to say it, you should really take the responsibility for what you did. I'm sorry, I can't help...

Maybe in a few more months we will have the needed files, but not now.

Hey guys he made a mistake.

A big mistake and granted he should have known better but if your able to help him out shadowmite then do so.

How many times did people take the plunge and installed ROM upgrades for other nations on the Treo 600 knowing they were running a risk the phone would be stuffed and voiding their warrantee.

How many people upgraded the Treo 600 to unlocked version.

Give him the details he needs to kill the phone so he can sort the problem out.

Not everyone is as heartless on this board as others.

Wait -- Can't he replace the Sprint spash screen with a custom one? That should be enough to fool Cingular

as long as they dont hard reset it.....

In that case play dumb, "WTF why does it say Sprint!?!?! I told you this thing was broken!!"

I GOT IT!! Take some photos of your shlong with the phone, THEN return it to Cingular!

"This thing is loaded with gay porn and Sprint logos, WTF kind of business are you guys running!? I demand a new phone!"

(if you dont get this see this thread: http://discussion.treocentral.com/sh...ad.php?t=73319)

    Great Yiddish word, shlong....

Given the fact that the thing now sports a Sprint Splash screen, they might blame the whole problem on some Sprint plot to swoop and snatch other carriers' phones over the air. Hey, the guys that work in the Cingular stores might buy that....

Stick it in the microwave for 10 seconds or put it in a heavy magnetic field to nuke all the chipsets. Tell them you have a defect phone.
    Palm III -> Sony Clie 73V + Sony Ericsson 610 -> Sony Ericcson P900 -> Nokia 6600 + IPAQ 4150 -> Treo 650 -> BenQ P50 -> Motorola Q -> Treo 755p -> HTC Titan (Sprint Mogul)

How about..."take responsibility for your actions and buy a new one"?
  18. #18
Us Americans no longer take responsibility for our actions. I think he needs to sue somebody or something instead.
  19. #19
magnetic field? What would that do? surely you didn't think that would do much?

As for a nuke, most everything in it is quite well shielded.

If he really wants the method to kill it, he can email me and I'll tell him, not gonna post it for the masses to "try" and see what it does! lol. But there is a way to via a serial cable make the phone not even turn on anymore.

Another one bites the dust? Yes, I would kill it completely and ask for replacement. Hell, even if you take it to the store they won't have a clue other than "Gee! it really doesn't work. You need a replacement."
