Anyone who's used a Sidekick will know about its AutoText feature. You can have a sequence of letters substituted with anything else when you enter a space.

For example, if I typed 'Welcome to tc ', when I entered that last space I could have it automatically change the text to 'Welcome to TreoCentral.com '. This is more useful than it might sound. I went as far as having 't ' change to 'the '. You'd be amazed at how much faster your typing becomes as you develop your own shorthand.

I know there's a similar app for Palm OS which requires a period '.' to be entered to signify the following text be changed. But I didn't find that at all intuitive.

The clever part of the Sidekick implementation is when you change your mind. If I entered 't ', it would correctly change to 'the '. But, if I then hit backspace, it would change 'the ' back to 't'. Not as clever as it might sound as it only remembers the last word changed, but should make it simple to implement.

Is anyone up to the challenge of coding this for the Palm OS?
