I get that too, with the stock browser (of course, after it crashed and reset.) My second unit is coming soon.

No, I'm saying the built-in, stock web brower (factory reset) is crashing on load.

unlocked or cingular version? i'm starting to think the unlocked's have issues.

    he said it was unlocked.

I don't think it's the unlocked or there would be hordes more complaining about the same thing instead of ( currently ) you, me, and a few others who said they experienced it a few times.

Anyway, I'm on my 2nd attempt to get through to an actual person at P1, been waiting 55 minutes, this is absurd.

Check your network settings. You should have a Cingular GPRS service defined, connection type GPRS, user name WAP@CINGULARGRPS.COM, APN is wap.cingular. I don't know what the password is but if you search here or in howardforums.com you will find it. These settings should come straight from the carrier, but sometimes you have to call them to have them resend them.

new developments. i can send sms fine and receive fine.

instead of trying to fetch email i've been trying to send some. it goes through a number of the steps and looks like it is working and then just reboots.

do you know these settings are in the quote above? do you think this might help or is my unit just a fetus?

Well, if sending mail is your problem, and you are using Versamail, this is a whole new world of hurt!!! Do a search on "Veramail reboot fixed" and you should find info on deleteing the Versamail databases to start from scratch.

Network settings are under System/Prefs. These should automatically be provided by your carrier (they did in my case- Cingular). If you are having issues you should call your carrier and double check your phone is properly configured - they can send an over the air (OTA) update to your phone.

Yes, even if it isnt Cingular branded. What matters is who you have your voice/data service with. If it is Cingular, then Cingular will send you those updates. If you try to use it with TMobile or some other carrier that doesnt support the 650 at all, that might be a different story.

ok, i'm in there and the settings look good. the "password" is "assigned" so it looks like cingular did set it. apn is wap.cingular etc. i guess my unit is garbage. blazer and versamail lock up. guess i need a new one. is there anything i can do by instatlling the CD? with a blackberry you can wipe it clean with desktop manager and re-install. can you do this with a treo?

Ok, I'd like to give Cingular a ring...what exactly should I say so they know what I'm talking about?

    Thanks

Just tell them your phone is not working, that it is locking up. Tell them you've done a hard reset and that it is still locking up, that you want to verify that the phone is setup correctly at their end. They may transfer you to a technical support specialist to troubleshoot. If that doesnt fix it, they should be able to process a replacement for you.

i'll do that, but i bought my unlocked version from palm as did MFizzel (i think). i doubt cingular will give us a replacement. my concern is calling cingular with my mediaworks simm and telling them my treo is locking. should i just say that my cell phone is locking and ask them to resend the data? or should i go directly to Palm and say "WTF"?

I already have a replacement order being processed with P1, but I'd still be willing to attempt this...however I'm not too fond of letting them know I'm using the 650 as I don't want any trouble with my $19.99 unlimited MW feature.

    did you contact cingular?

is P1 going to overnight you a unit?
  18. #58
Nope, haven't contact Cingular yet in fear of having my plan screwed up.

A replacement order is being processed ( with p1 ) and I was told should take 1 to at the most 2 business days, and once processed, the replacement will be shipped. I had the CSR specify in the notes that I want overnight shipped because that's what I originally paid for.

So we'll see, I should receive some emails confirming another order...I'll update.

I got my Unlocked 650 from the Palm Store. Popped in my AT&T GSM card.
Worked with no resets for an hour. Did my first sync; worked ok for a little while and then began the series of resets. It works for sometime and then resets. One way to make it reset is to let the phone sit idle for a couple of hours, then press the green phone button, middle button on 5way and within a seconds, pop, it resets. I haven't installed anything special. I even did a hard reset today, resynced, received a phone call, 5mins and it locked up. Had to soft reset it. Now I have hard-resetted it again, not planning on synching it till tomorrow. If it resets even once, I'm getting a replacement.
If it does not reset, I'll cleanup the palm desktop, reinstall and give it one more chance.

Is the cingular voicemail issue also applicable to AT&T? I'm not sure how much their systems have been integrated.
