OK - I've had my Visor for 3 months now and have tried to use the Journal and am now wondering why I've even bothered. I can not see any easy way to collect the journals for review or to do anything other than look at the journal for each individual day.

Has anyone written any doc on effective use of the journal?

    thx

Our product, DayNotez, tries to address just this type of thing. There is a 30-day trail available, and a desktop companion and conduit are in the works. http://www.natara.com/DayNotez.

I appreciate that there are other products out there. Having spent more than I had planned for the Visor (hadn't planned to get one) and for a lot of other accessories I would like to use what I have for now.

CESD (author of DateBK+, DateBK3 and DateBK4) has posted a program to extract journals on his web site. Works pretty well. The program is journaler.exe and is toward the bottom of the page.

give it a try. You might want to try DateBK4. It's great!

will it only work with journal entries written in datebk4? or can we use this with the regular Datebk+ program on the visor?

The Journaler is interesting and it seems to work partially with the datebk+. In reading the DateBk4 doc it looks very very interesting.

    Some questions:

    1. how much memory will it require on my Visor Deluxe?

    2. does it replace the DateBook and DateBook+ on the Visor or will I have 3 DateBook icons?

    3. Does it work with Intellisync to sync with Lotus Notes?

    4. Is there an upgrade path for the Visor Datebook+?

    5. Will my existing entries transfer?

    6. Can I install the 45-day trial and if I don't like it what happens to my entries when I delete it?

    thx

    It's big -- 416k

Datebk and DateBK+ are in rom and will remain. You can banish them from your display by putting them into the unfiled category. I would advise downloading the DATEBK+ stub program and installing if you decide to try DateBK4. The stub 'masks' DateBK+ to prevent interference. Works very well for me.

    3. Does it work with Intellisync to sync with Lotus Notes?

Can't answer that one since I don't use Lotus notes. I don't use anything on the desktop preferring to keep everything in my trusted VDx.

    4. Is there an upgrade path for the Visor Datebook+?

    No

    5. Will my existing entries transfer?

Yes. DateBK4 uses the same database as DateBK and DateBk+.

    6. Can I install the 45-day trial and if I don't like it what happens to my entries when I delete it?

They will still be there, sans any DateBK4 enhancements.

    thx
You might also try this egroup that is specifically for DateBK:

    Hope this helps.

There appears to be a version of journaler.exe for datebook3. It's near the bottom of of the datebook3 page.

Journaler is a winders program... not for the visor. It collects entries from your on-disk (and therefore synced) datebook depending on what you ask it to look for.

If you want to look at them on the visor, go to "list view" in the datebk+, select "prefs" button, and set "Filter by Text" to "Jour". Now you will see a list of your journal entries. Select the up arrow to change the view (one week, for example). To see the text of each entry (really just an attached note) select the note icon.

I use it every week to do my status report...

Thanks for the terrific solution. I hadn't used the Prefs while in List View before and thus didn't know about the filtering option. So simple once one knows about it.
