I wish I could make stickies here, but moderators won't give a sub-forum. Sorry.

    GoodGuy:

I think your GoodLink thread is a great idea. I have been on GoodLink now for about 30 days and must say it is excellent. I converted everyone in my office to GL.

Anyway, I have an issue with the SMS function. I am on Treo 650 on Verizon. When I try to send an SMS and use the lookup function -- it sends me to the GoodLink contact manager. When I look up the contact and select it -- it doesnt bring the SMS number over.

I know that I can go to the GL contact manager and initiate the SMS from there -- but it becomes a problem if you want to send an SMS to multiple parties.

    Any ideas?

Why is goodlink good for me? What does it do?
Do you need a subscription or just buy a program?

    Goodguy,

Now that I am using Goodlink for Contacts and Calendar....what do I do with the built in Palm Contact and Calendar?
    - Does the Goodlink Contacts/Calendar sync to the Treo 650 palm databases for contacts and calendar?
    - Can I delete my old Contact and Calendar databases from my 650 to gain some extra RAM?

    Thanks

    1. No, GoodLink uses it's own store for that data, not the Palm native apps.

    2. There is nothing you can do as it is programmed into the ROM. There may be hacks out there, but that is beyond what I know and there are plenty more knowledgeable than I when it comes to digging into the ROM.

Welcome to the Good family! Glad to have you aboard.

What you are seeing is a by product of the fact that Good creates it's own contact database and becomes the default for the SMS. Now, there is a way to utilize the Palm contacts, however, this method makes the Palm contacts the default for the phone and SMS and you won'tbe able to search the Good contacts for SMS recipients. Do a search in this thread for delete contacts and you will see. That, or head over to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Goodlink/message/113

I asked about this it the consensus is that the solitiare selection is from the old mobitext days. Not applicable today and simply hasn't been removed.

Availble from the Sprint or Cingular direct, all other carriers, direct from Good. If you PM me your information, I can get the appropriate pricing to you.

ok thanks for checking. it was something that was there on the server side, but when i checked it off, nothing seems to be pushed to the treo side.

hey goodguy, i know i've asked this before and haven't gotten a good answer.

how would i completely and cleanly uninstall goodlink completely off of my treo 650? list all the files including any hidden files, if any.

i am getting really frustrated with how goodlink seems to take over control over the entire treo. i recently upgraded my firmware. of course before upgrading the firmware, i took a backup of my treo using backupman. after successfully upgrading the fw, i proceeded to restore everything.

first of all i get an error when trying to start goodlink. it tells me to place in cradle and run setup. when i run the ota setup (i had it previously downloaded and saved on my sd card), it goes to the very end, i think its setup? i think the first step is login, then download, then install, or something like that. anyway, the progress bar immediately is at the end, and i tap on the start setup button, then nothing happens. i basically have to pin reset the device.

since that didn't work, i tried to uninstall all the goodlink files, including anything i had backed up using the good backup to my sd card. goodlink appears to be off my treo. so i ran the ota setup again. same thing. it seems like ota setup knows that i previously installed goodlink and when i try to run it again, it just hangs.

so what do i do? i have to hard reset, again, and before doing a backupman restore, i go through the whole shabang of getting a new copy of ota setup through https://get.good.com and then downloading and installing everything from scratch.

why is it so difficult to uninstall good? i mean completely and cleanly uninstall good. people who download a trial of good and testing it out... is the only way for them to get goodlink off is to do a hard reset? i hope thats not your answer. can you please provide a list of EVERY file associated with goodlink that we can delete in order to have it completely off the treo.

sorry i'm just so frustrated because i spent the last 4 hours hard resetting about 5 times and trying to reinstall my other just as important palm apps and also trying to get goodlink reinstalled.

I send an email to my wife all the time. I also call her often. I like to use the favorites bars at the bottom of the phone dialer screen. No problem with phone calls -- the "speed dial" class of favorite picks up contacts from GL contacts as eligible contacts and handles the call nicely.

But I cannot set up an email favorite (i.e. set up a compose screen with an email to my wife) using the dialer screen favorites. If you choose the "Email" class of favorite, the Treo tries to use the Palm email (which, of course, I don't touch and has no contacts visible to it or relationship with an email server).

Can I have an email favorite on the phone dialer screen with that will open a GL compose screen? You can choose GL Compose as an application, but that only opens a blank compose which much be addressed.
    Jayboy,

Did you get a response to this? I can't seem to find it. Can you point me to it? If it slipped through the cracks, Good Guy, would you mind offering your insight on this one?

    Many thanks.

Can an individual use Goodlink like I use Activesync? What is the cost of Goodlink?

I had never tried this before, but I see what you mean. If I had picked Email from the Type list and filled in the "To:" string, the Favorite button will go directly to the GL Compose screen but without the address filled in. I can only guess that GL doesn't pick up the Favorite's "To:" string when the GL Compose app is called by the Phone/Favorites app.

Type:"Email" works since I have GoodLink as my default Email app in Prefs->Default Apps. You could also set the Type to Application->" Compose", but then you don't even get the "To:" field to fill out when you first set up the Favorites button.

No I did not get a response. Thanks for picking this one back up Good Guy. Tomvb2000, it makes no difference whether I set Goodlink as default email application under prefs. If I do that, I get the same look and result as if I choose Compose as the application for the Dialer favorite. No matter what, the Goodlink compose screen will not open with my wife's email address.

goodlink must be very pricey, since goodguy has not answered the pricing question as yet to anybody, and you cant find that info easily.

I don't know, perhaps it is against forum rules. If so, I guess my post will go bye-bye soon. In any event, we have a small 5-user license at work, pay $330 per user per year, but then there was a small discount tacked on. This was six or eight months ago, pricing may have changed since then. Unlike BES, there is no server license, but I do believe we had to pay for a minimum of 5 devices.

EDIT: Keep in mind a couple things, this is not a desktop redirector, you need a server install, when I say "no server license" above, I mean no cost for the server. I think Good now sells through Cingular and Sprint as well as direct and may also have abandoned the 5-user limit. Finally, I'm sure larger enterprises pay a lot less than we do on a per-user basis.
