That is the reason why CDMA 650 users and EDGE 650 users are reporting similar speeds because they're using functionally the same stage of communications.

The 3G modes are CDMA 2000 1xEV (EVDO and EVDV), WCDMA (UMTS) and TD-SCDMA. Current CDMA like Verizon companies generally upgrade their network to EVDO or EVDV if they're ambitious and current GSM carriers generally upgrade to WCDMA.
Cingular will roll out UMTS nationwide in 2006 though they now operate the network that ATTWS set up in 6 markets. Actually Cingular in Atlanta just tested HSDPA sometimes called 3.5G, a software upgrade of WCDMA which promises download speeds of 14.4 Mbps. T-Mobile has a problem because they don't have the spectrum to deploy WCDMA. They're aggressively buying spectrum looking to 2007 to deploy 3G and might go directly to HSDPA.
At that point we should have a Treo 700 that's 3G compatible with EVDO for you Verizon and Sprint users and UMTS compatible for Tmobile and Cingular and again we'll be back to comparable speeds.
    Hurray!
Oh, so they have internet on computers now!

I have also done the test a number of times on my Tmobile Blackberry 7100t and have gotten similar results. Why is it that Tmobile GPRS is getting the same magnitude results as Cingular EDGE?

Just curious...getting very close to pulling the trigger on GSM T650...

I average 65-75 kbps with 4 BARS! Cingular branded gsm t650. New Orleans area (coverage map said we have EDGE). Needless to say, reading this thread is making me angry as I am at the bottom of the barrel.

WHOA. With TMo here in NYC I'm getting waaaaaay faster results with xiino than blazer, including some edge speeds (e.g. 142kbps). Does this make any sense since supposedly TMo hasn't rolled out edge?

I am seriously thinking about switching to sprint because I haven't seen anyone post less than 100 kbps on the mspeed test

    100kbps for what packet size?

High kbps is good. Low d/l time is good. Am I missing something?

100kbps is good compared to the 65-75 kbps I'm getting with cingular's $24.99 media works plan. I called cingular today and they are supposedly looking into it and will contact me by march 4th to see what the problem is.

Downtown Los Angeles getting similar results to other Sprint users. Around 115 kbps average and around 1.7 seconds latency. I tried laptop through Bluetooth DUN speeds a while back at Toast.net and saw higher speeds than this.

you better use it all! take advantage of your priveleges

True. I consistently got 140 KBPS on Sprint phones, and consistently get under 76KBPS on Cingular GSM phones.

    Wow.

After consistently getting 36-40 kbps with Blazer, I just downloaded Xiino. Xiino just delivered me 338 kbps!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Cingular, Los Angeles

High latency does eat away at the glory.

    What's up with Blazer??
