This is early preview code so comments are welcome.

Visit www.burmeisterbrown.com to download a free, optimized Yahoo! Instant Messenger client for Treo 600/650. It supports Picture Messaging, Emoticons, Shortcuts, and automatic links to dial and email.

The Address Book tab allows you to email or call any of your Yahoo! Address Book contacts.

We appreciate your comments! Send them to mike@netequality.org.

    Thanks,

I haven't actually downloaded and used this Yahoo client yet (you bet I will, though.) But I have AOL Instant Messenger for my Treo. So when you say there's nothing like this for AIM, do you mean there is no AIM for Treo, or that it's not as good as this one?

It seems to work pretty good. I like that it acts like chatter and let's you know you have a message by 'pop up'. Also, I like that you can send 'off-line' messges to your buddies. That is a great feature.

Tried the picture sending...the othe person never got a link. I think it might have timed out. As an improvement, I would like it to allow taking the picture and then sending it. That way, you can take a picture and retake the picture if it didn't turn out the way you wanted...as it is now, if you snap it, then it just sends it.

The interface is much like Verichat. I like it. Keep it up.

I'd like to know a little about how this product works, privacy information/policy, whether it goes to your server first, then Yahoo, etc. before using it.

Secondly, has Yahoo contracted you to do this or are you doing it on your own. (IE: Do you have a phishing license?)

I was on a call and logged onto my yahoo client via my laptop. Since I was already signed on to my treo 600 with the same username, it immediately reset my phone . I didnt do a log but I am guessing it did not like me logging in twice (yahoo will log you out of one device if you log into another) .

fyi-still a nice client. I like the gui.

do you have the AIM App that costs money? i don't think there is any out there for free. Except for www.imforwards.com . That one only sends SMS to your phone through AIM though.

I think this app uses sms to notify you of an IM when you dont have the app open in front of you. On my plan I only get 100 a month so this wont work for me. If you use it by logging in and chatting and then logging out, then its great. I dont like the shared SMS notification because I chat a lot on all the messengers.

I do like the interface. If you have unlimited sms, then this is a keeper.

I'm a longtime Verichat user, and I'm giving this a test - how does this handle incoming chat requests? If I'm in another app, how do I get notified of a chat request if I'm in another app? (none of my friends are onlline now or I'd test it). Does this do like Verichat does and give you a little pop up window?
I do like the UI much better - VERY similar to the windows look of Y! on the PC. Very nice. A few things I don't love, but it's nice for the first try. Will I use this over VC? Don't know yet....

Keep in mind chatter is primarily an email client now. Marc does not offer accounts for instant messaging anymore.

Like the setup but I wasnt logged in anywhere else and as soon as it tried to log me in, I got a reset loop!

Can you run this off a card? (Like i installed it) Or does it have to reside on the 650 itself? THank goodness I have a daily backup... I will try to install it direct to the Treo memory and see again. I have been looking for a good Yahoo msgr app. Let's hope it works.

I would bet it has to run from the device. Most apps that operate in the background need to be on the treo.

Nope... no dice. Installed to the Treo memory and I get a soft reset everytime I try to log in. I was looking forward to it too.

Downloaded straight to card, to my surprise, it works! Just haven't been able to access the picture & other extras. I use VeriChat, so I'll be trying this out...good job!
