Is it just me, but it seems like there must be someone looking at this site that can give us the definite inside scoop on the exact date/info/policies on the cingular/att treo 650. With all the leaks of info in corporate america, why is it so difficult to get the real skinny on this wonderful phone.

Well first of all, from a corporate standpoint, no leaks are the desired result, and companies that have well guarded information have usually controlled who is exposed to info and who isn't.

In this case, most of the mass confusion is because even though ATTWS/Cingular are technically "merged", they are not "one company" yet. There is still the Orange side of business and the Blue side of business, and despite what the advertising may tell you, they are doing different things.

Anyone posting anything on this board with more info than what their inventory computers tell them will probably lose their job and be sued for breaching corporate privacy.

How will anyone know who is posting what? Certainly someone could hide their identity so it would be impossible to really know who they really are or who they worked for.

You can't handle the truth! Sorry, you left yourself open for that one. Like alee says, they have NDAs for a reason. You may have been seeing all the stuff Apple is doing to stop all the leaks. What happened to patience?

You obviously haven't been in the corporate world very long... companies are very serious about protecting data and preventing leaks to the public market before they're ready to do so. This has already been evidenced time and time again by PalmOne asking for things to be removed from websites like Treonauts and TreoCentral.

Tracking down some anonymous poster is not as hard as it would sound. Administrators have logs of data which can be retrieved by way of a supoena (or in the interest of protecting relationships, companies like PalmOne can probably get away just asking sites like TreoCentral for such data). From there, you have an IP address. ISPs can determine who the IP address belongs to, or if it was posted from behind a corporate firewall, what company that person is at.

Most modern workplaces are actively monitoring your Internet activity... watch what you post and where you post from. It will catch up to you if you end up doing something "bad".

Marketing doesn't want you to know the truth yet.
