Does anyone use this service? Can the files be run off SD and will pTunes play them or do you need to use a proprietary player? I can't afford much more internal RAM!

I use it all of the time - it works great. The Audible files are stored on the SD card, and you need to use Audible's own Palm player. You can download the program from the Audible site.

Since you can have the Audible program on the SD card if you use a program like Launcher X or Powerrun, it takes almost no space in RAM.

The Audible desktop software lets you chose to install the Audible files in RAM, on the SD card via the USB port, or onto the card through a card reader.

I finally found a solution to automating the process of getting audible.com content on my device.

Audible recently added RSS support to their website. In conjunction with the latest beta version of quicknews ftp://ftp.standalone.com/beta/quick_..._1000r_322.prc
I now have and automated solution to getting my new york times and wall street journal eddition feed to my 650.

This only works if you download and transfer the subscriptions through Audible Manager unfortunately. Audbile player on your treo won't recognize the files unless they are downloadd and transferred via Audible Manager.

If you have audible player installed on your treo650 and have set up quicknews to download audio directly to the audible folder.... it works. At least it is working for me. I 've never have to connect to my PC granted this is my first month using this method.

hmm will have to try it out..I had only tried it via desktop synch since the files are large....and didn't have it going directly to the audible folder...

I've successfully got QuickNews downloading my audible subscription to NY Times via the RSS feed to my AudibleAudio folder. However, the file is not showing up when I run the Audible player. The file type for the file being downloaded via the podcast is .aa & all of the other files in the AudibleAudio folder are .apl. How did you get your Audible player to play .aa files?

That was my experience as well until I downloaded and transferred via Audible Manager. Maybe tolar1 knows something we don't

Actually, I've solved it! I had Audible player 2.5 on my palm. I just updated to 2.6 & it plays the file just fine! I also emailed Audible & told them to update their Podcast info to note that users need 2.6.

Great to hear paulg ! See guys I told you I wasn't lying.

Sadly I must report that I have run into a bit of a snag. When I woke up this morning I thought I would have my fresh new subscriptions loaded and waiting but nothing...bummer. So I checked with the tech's at standalone and my audible rss feed is empty...huh? Then I called audible tech support and they say there is nothing wrong with my account. The rep did say that they were working on over-the-air syncing for our treo-like device and would have a specialist call me....otay I've heard that one before. Hopefully I'll hear something in the next day or so and have this sorted out.

I'll give it another go. How big are the podcasts/subscriptions you're downloading? Will have to have one do it overnight so I'm not sitting and waiting for it to download

Scottymomo, I have been using format quality 3 (5mgb) which takes about 15 mins to download.

    NY Times worked, thanks!

I just got an email from Audible offering to include me in a beta test of their new Audible Air software. This lets you download via your cell phone data connection anything from your Audible library.

I just downloaded my NY times daily subscription via my Cingular EDGE connection. Works great !

I haven't tried downloading part of a novel yet. The user guide shows that you can download small parts of a larger book.

I took the que from branxman and I have been using the audibleair beta now for about a week aside from scheduled subscription downloads it also will refresh book content. It seems to be a very fluid system. If audible.com decides to charge for this service I will have to revert back to the rss method.

    Checkout the beta here:
    www.audible.com/audibleair

Make sure you uninstall all audible content and the program itself from your device before installing this

Downloaded it last night and tried it this morning and seems pretty cool. Couple things I didn't like is that it posts an alert in the attention/alert manager after a scheduled download was completed, and I also didn't like the fact that for subscriptions like the NY Times, I could only schedule the auto download when the subscription is updated (which is 3AM Pacific for the NY Times). I will leave some feedback for them to ask to have the ability to enter a specific time when you would like the content to be updated (like 6AM).

Hopefully one day also they will enhance the audibleplayer so that I can use the volume keys to increase/decrease the volume rather than using Up/Down on the D-pad, like PocketTunes allows
