I've seen a few people complaining about the less than perfect fit of the battery lid on sprint 650's. I've come up with a perfect solution that kills two birds! Sometimes when I want to go light, like going to the gym I don't like to carry my wallet, so I usually keep a $20 in my ipod case for emergencies. I thought of doing the same for my Treo but I don't keep a case on it. Thats when I thought of sticking the bill under the battery (over the battery makes the lid want to come off). If you fold it just right it fits perfect! (fold the long way into thirds, then in half the other way). And guess what, the lid now feels solid as a rock! I know it's a small inconvenience to get the bill out from behind the battery, but like I said this is for the occasional "emergency."

make sure it does not get to hot

It would have to get pretty hot to actually become a hazzard... no problems yet.

I tried the $20 and it did not work, I think a larger bill may do it. Please fold a $100 bill and send it to me for testing as I am not clear on the folding instructions.

I got a small sheet of "Foamies" at Wal-Mart. It is only 2mm thick foam pad with adhesive backing. placing a couple of small squares on the back of the cover made the fit VERY tight...no more Squeaking.

    techLove,
I used to do the exact samething in the battery compartment of my Kyocera 6035 smartphone (way back in the day). Glad to hear that a $20 will fit in the 650 as well. I'm definitely gonna do it. Nothing worse than standing in line at a fast food restaurant or something and when you finally get to the cashier you realize you don't have your wallet with you. No longer a problem with the ol' $20 in the Treo. Just remember to always replenish it if you empty it.

As much as I just laughed about this idea, I just did it. Seems to fit very snuggly and will come in handy on some occasions!

I noticed there's some space in the antenna. I wonder if I can hollow that out and stick something useful in there too...

Wow, that's funny. Maybe it will improve the antenna reception! {= D

For the antenna, why not fill it with those packs that absorb humidity, just in case you drop it in water. Instant Dry!

    {= D

    PS: im joking of course.

techLove: it's a great hack. I have been thinking about fixing this battery cover thing, now I can kill two birds with one stone. Wallet? who needs a wallet.

Great so now we are giving the thief that takes our Treo a $20 rebate!

PS: I'm joking...I like the idea but worry about the heat factor...my Treo tends to get rather warm after multi-hours of surfing the web

Standard paper burns at over 450 degrees fahrenheit. Since US currency is mostly cotton I would suspect that it burns at a higher temperature still. At any rate, at half of these temperatures, your treo's processor would fry first.

    Just my 2 cents.

I don't know about you guys, but my Treo has a piece of foam on the inside of the battery cover. Feels solid as a rock.

Great quality control by PalmOne. $600 for a high tech device and you need to come up with something like this to get the thing to fit together properly!

The back left hand side of my cover on my GSM 650 just started creaking this afternoon. If they hadn't put the rest hole behind the battery cover or provided a hole to get to it without removing the battery cover, I'd rarely if ever have to take the cover off...

Yea, but Palm would charge you $40 for the solution, and then mail you a $20 for you to install.

(j/k to those who work for palm and are holding my 650 hostage)

I had the same issue when I got my Sprint 650. Half a strip of the soft side of a velco strip fixed it.
