Hey guys, I know that there are mobile search engines out there, so this is not entirely original, but I got so fed up with trying to weed through all of the full sites that I created my own search engine. It's nothing great or huge yet, but it only brings back mobile sites in the results (unless I missed one or two). I just thought that maybe you guys would want to try it. If not, sorry!

I hate to be a pain, but does anyone have any feedback or suggestions? Did I miss any blatantly obvious sites? I made sure that I got TC in there (wink, wink ) Any comments are appreciated.

I made it to make searching for mobile sites easier. I guess what I really want to know is if you would use it or not.

Ambitious, but with http://www.google.com/palm available on a Palm friendly basis I don't get your purpose.

For example, search for ESPN on each.

With Google, it comes back with ESPN's Full Site

With bigboy650's site, it comes back with ESPN's PPC site as the second result.

Google's search page is optimized for PDAs, but the results are the same as you would get from IE or Firefox. WapSwap gives you results that are optimized for PDAs.

    I like it. Thanks.

Ok, thanks for the explanation and for telling us about WapSwap. I did a search for "driving directions" to see if it returned the mobile MapQuest link and others. It returned mobile version of CEO Express and an older link to MQ's driving directions link. Very nice. I'll explore further.

There is another site that does the same thing I believe. I too search for "ESPN" at www.mobileleap.net/mobile which yielded pda-friendly links.

And on a somewhat related topic, you can always view those big, not so PDA-friendly sites via Skweezer. Very handy tool for the Treo. Discussion here:

Thanks guys. I'm trying to make improvements on it and any sites that are missing, let me know. I tried Skweezer and it was nice but I wanted to make something that would be dedicated to mobile sites.

You know, I really like your site so far. I searched for the keyword "treo" and it only brought up mobile sites (just as it was supposed to). It also seemed to bring up fairly relevant information. As this is refined, I can certainly see how this would be very useful.

When you ask about sites that are missing what do you mean exactly? Is there a way to tell what sites you are already drawing listings from?

You know what really needs to happen is someone out there (hint hint) should develop an app that would allow webadmins to convert their current site layout into mobile sites. Something that is run server side or some kind of serverside template of a skweezer type function. That way the site is automagically crunched on the host's server and get's one more admin on the mobile bandwagon.

There is a module/plugin for vBulletin that allows this, as TreoCentral has demonstrated.

    http://treo.discussion.treocentral.c...php?styleid=12

Also, there's a module for PostNuke that gives you an "avantgo" PDA optimized version of the news stories.

I guess I was just asking if there were any sites that yuo may have searched for and were not in there. (I know a lot of the members here have sites as well.) That's all

I think that I'll implement a section where people can suggest a site as well.

OK, now we've got the add a site feature. You know what's funny? This has kind of become an obsession to find all of the mobile sites out there. If anyone wants to help or is just interested, here is a link to "the wapSwap project". My goal is to collect as many mobile sites as possible. Anyone can submit them.

Anyone with a little time on their hands?

    Super awesome idea!
Do you rely on people submitting sites or is there some general search that you are doing to find the sites?

Both . Lots of late nights. I try to verify every site to make sure that each one is indeed a mobile site. This is kind of a cool project, though.

You know the crazy thing about this? The other night, someone asked what the definition of the word "nary" was. I went to the site, typed in dictionary, and it pulled it right up! What a cool feeling.

On a side note, thanks for everyone's help submitting sites. Together I think that we can organize all of the mobile sites! We're up to 367 already. Keep those submissions coming!

On a bit of a side note...does anyone have any ''adult'' sites I should include? Either there's not many out there or I can't find them... Feel free to PM me if you don't want to post them.

Note to admin. Delete this post if you find itoffensive- I'm just trying to get info for the search engine.

Now, typically I'd pronounce WAP like "slap"...... Now with your website name, to get the rhyming going, it turns it into a racial slur

And yeah, we all need to share some more "adult" palm sites. Spit em out guys, you know ya have some!

Bigboy, your site has helped other users from missing the ESPN site. See http://discuss.treocentral.com/showthread.php?t=71223

    Thanks.

I just loaded a bunch of mobile sites for inclusion on WapSwap. You should post an alphabetical listing of sites that are currently accepted on your site so people are not constantly inputting dupes for inclusion. For example, http://eboogie.com/html/all_pda_links.html lists a bunch of theirs by topic also which also may not be a bad idea whereas it may become an never ending scroll-athon to read the entire list. Just my 2 cents.
