I'm trying to "pressure" our good friend, Shimon Shnitzer, maker of TAKEphONE, to release a standalone utility that auto-redials a number when it is unavailable/busy.

This feature is alrady incorporated in the latest beta of TAKEphONE. However, there are some of us who are not such advanced users and have no need for TAKEphONE's other powerful features. For this reason, I think that a seperate little utility would be very much appreciated.

So c'mon guys! Think how cool this would be. Imagine the look on your friends' faces when you show off the power of the Treo!

    JUST THINKING OUTLOUD....

How about making it a plug-in for TAKEphONE, like the highlight and dial OS5hack?
This may make it more his while and since the "engine" is there (TAKEphONE), then it might be easier to do as well?

Of course, have it like 4cast and 4stocks (a plug in for 2DAY) , very resonable price for a plug-in.

I would have zero issues paying $5ish for such an app, I could have used it yesterday as a matter of fact.

    Just my 2-cents worth, Matt

TAKEphONE already has this feature inbuilt into the latest beta. I'm trying to get Shimon to release a solution for non-users of TAKEphONE.

I voted No because I already have this functionality in TakePhone. (Sorry to rain on your parade!) I think it might be nice for Shimon to offer a "lite" version for people who want it (and sell it in the $10 or less price range). Shimon would probably only get $4-$5 out of this after subtracting costs, so he'd need to sell a lot of these. So far, 17 yes votes is barely enough to make it worth his while. IF YOU WOULD BUY THIS, PLEASE VOTE YES to help Shimon decide.
    I'm both super! ... and a doer!

I would think this app is the sort of thing that once folks heard about it and realized its true, repeated use they would flock to it. I vote yes!

I believe it would be worth his while since it mainly involves recycling of old codes. It's not like he has to code it from scratch. The functionality and coding is already in TAKEphONE. All Shimon needs to do is take that code and repackage it. Not much work there I think, and yet it opens up a whole new market for him (non-TAKEphONE users). And since the bulk of the work is already done, I believe even 5 purchases will cover the time he spent repackaging old codes. Anything else will be a bonus.

why are you begging Simon to make this program for you. It seems to me "from your post" thhat you have some programming Konwledge.
Why not ask him for the soucre and extract the code your self.

If you think the program is so profitable, take the risk yourself. offerer to buy the sode code from him "for like say twice the price" assure him you will not release it. Strip out " or comment out" all the other functionality. add a advertisment for the full Takephone product "free ad for Simon" and sale the software you self.

    Just an idea
Sorry the error " I'm on my treo"

Let's get a couple of things straight:

    1. I AM NOT BEGGING. (What gave you this idea?)

    2. I do not have any programming knowledge.

    3. The program is profitable only for Shimon since he already took the time to write the code in the first place. A standalone auto-redial app is merely another avenue for him to "repackage" his already-done product to target a different market. It's like a 2-for-1 deal. For an author to code the feature from scratch, I am undecided as to whether it will be worth his time and effort. That is up to the buying public to decide.

    Hope this clarifies certain things.

And in case anyone is wondering what led to the origin of this poll... it was a reference by Shimon himself on another thread whereby he mentioned the words, "Group Pressure." I figured a poll might prove to be a good idea. I was certain that there were a number of non-TAKEphONE users who would still like an auto-redial feature on their Treos.

Well if you have no programming knowledge, hire or pay someone else to do it for you. Taking a business risk doesn't envole having to wear all the hat on a operation.

it looks like you have done you research into the market of the Program. There are plenty of good developers out here. Hell I could fix the program for you my self if i was provide the source code "any basic programmer could".

Like I said in my previous post, Make some type of agreement with the developer of the app. Get the source code, hire, or ask another developer to do the work for you, then start sell the app.
You could make an agreement between Simon, You , and the other Developer to share all profits.

If it was some easy for Simon to do it, Why hasn't he already done it? Maybe he just doesn't have the time? Well Help him out, instead of Hassleing him "and ask the assitance of the rest of the board to hassle him right along with you", give him a hand.

"if you want something done right, you have to do it yourself"
"if you don't know how to do something, Learn to"

    Just a suggestion.

    Hi,

Forgive me for "butting in", but I feel I need to.

I myself have no problem with the poll initiative - if you follow the course of my products development over time (TAKEphONE, 2day, Treo shortcuts ...) you will see I like to get users involved in the development process, and make good use of users comments & ideas.

In a sense you can say this poll is a help to me - sort of a "market survey" for this new product idea.

God knows most developer's time is limited, and especially in the Palm "economy" most are "one man operation" and do have to handle development, marketing, graphic design, and a whole lot more (I know I have to do all myself) - and this leaves little to no time to handle every idea buy users, but (at least in my case) - the relationship with all Palm users has proved itself to be most beneficial - both business-wise and social-wise.

Thanks you ALL for your views.

Shimon wanted me to gauge interest and that is what i did. Maybe it is easy, maybe it's not. I dont know. I also have no idea why Shimon hasn't already done it. (Perhaps he wants to encourage ppl to use TakePhone?)

The developer wanted me to do something like this and I did that. Plain and simple. You got a problem with it, take it out with Shimon or ask the mods to close this down.

Sorry Sorry. I didn't mean to carry that type of tone.

I love the forum and have no problems with it.
I was just stating the reason why I voted no on this poll.

I also create a post call "A call for open source programming on TC", and I was just trying to hint at the idea that we can create our on app, instead of wait for developers to create them for us.

I"m currently learning to write programs for palm "with Treo in Mind", I will try to look at the Palm Sample source code, and see is I can create a program to Auto Redail a phone number.

    Cool my first project.
Could you give me a link to the Trail version of TakePhone "so I can see what you are talking about"

    again sorry for the tone.

I voted no because I don't want it. But that doesn't mean someone else wouldn't want it. As long as I can opt out

I am another one waiting for this app...

    THANKS!!!

    Hi all,

    First - thanks !

Now - there are two problems with this project:

    1. My computer just broke down this week, so I am
facing a little backlog in work. That's a minor issue.

    2. The main issue - To support auto-redial on busy,
I need the Treo device to detect busy, and either
    report it or handle it.
Turns out on many devices (or rather on many carriers)
the device does not handle busy detection - it mearly
stays in the call screen, waiting for YOU to drop the call.

What I am saying is - this application can only work if
your device shows you "Line was busy ... redial ?" dialog.

How many of you do see this message ?

Yep, it shows the "Line was busy... redial?" prompt on mine. Below that line is the countdown. Everything works automatically, and I don't have to move a finger... that's what makes it so great.

UPDATE: I'm using an unlocked GSM 650.

Well My T-Mobile treo 600 said that...
    BUT!!!
I just switched to Verizon Treo 600 and it just stays busy waiting for me to disconnect.

    Thanks Verizon...
I've been waiting for this a long time and now I get shot down...

My unlocked T600 with Rogers presents the Redial? dialog on a busy.

It does not have a countdown like Rudy mentioned above that he gets presented with.

When I'm driving it's a pain in the thumb and a momentary hazard as my attention gets diverted for a nano-second while I check if it has hit another busy signal...
