Hey look! I just made a Treo 650 cradle with audio out, usb sync & charge. Works great! See pics: It's plugged into the notebook's USB and hooked up to a mini remote stereo speaker playing PTunes. Sounds awesome for such a little speaker.

Materials: Acrylic and cork. The cork is in contact with your 650's back to keep it scratch free. Another nice thing about the cork is it can be sanded down to fit your 650 if you've installed EGrips or a skin case (if the thickness is less than 1/16 in.)

I am taking orders for the cradle if you'd like one. $59.95 plus $5 s&h in the USA. Contact me about overseas shipping. When I get 10 orders, I will make a batch then shipem out.

I like the idea, but $60 is a lot for something that looks like I made it in my garage late at night. Consider a price drop?

LOL, I think I'll wait for the real deal.

I do agree with mg 48. I doesnt have that professional manufactured look at all. No offense, but I wouldn't plan my retirement on this one. Having to wait this long for the real deal though I dont blame you for concocting your own.

The one in the pic is a prototype. The ones I will make will have polished edges and will look real nice. This cradle is for those who don't want to wait. The wait could be a long time, maybe never. The OEM cradle does not have audio or USB sync and charge to the best of my knowledge.

Go to your local craft supply store (or even Walmart) and look for self-ahdesive foam sheets (usually come in 8-1/2 x 11 x 2 mm thick). It'll look a lot better than that cork and comes in several colors.

My understanding is that it's supposed to be available as early as tomorrow (1/21).

The OEM cradle IS a USB sync and charge device. I don't think it has audio, but if they use a connector with all the contacts, it can be hacked to included it since audio output pins are available on the sync connector.

I just got off the phone with P1. They expected to have it weeks ago, but it is apparently still being tested. Rep did not think that it has been mass-produced yet.

I kinda like the cork, you can use cork for mine.
It goes well with the black.

Thanks for the suggestion. Is it the color match that's not appealing? I can dye the cork black if that's the issue.

Personally, I think cork is just so '70's!

I just think the foam would give it a more professional look IMHO. At something like $.98 a sheet, you can try it yourself to see if it makes a difference.

The pic is a prototype. The final product will be very professional looking. I am also thinking of making a cradle out of a solid piece of exotic wood. Cocobolo, in the rose wood family, dark brown, highly figured and Ebony (black) comes to mind. Any interest in that?

I might be interested AFTER I see the final. The wood sounds really cool. How much do you think it might cost?

I'm out of my mind. But feel free to leave a message.

I'll shoot some pics when the final version is ready. The cocobolo wood cradle will be more than $60 for sure. I'll have to add up material and labor. To see what cocobolo looks like

go to http://tinyurl.com/7xlzb and scroll down

I've worked with cocobolo and it's a very heavy/ dense hard wood with beautiful grains and takes a high polish.

I've gone to using Rosewood finished with Tung oil for the cradle . Much nicer looking than plexiglas. This cradle is is great for home, on the road or in the office. This is a take apart low profile cradle which will not take much room in your computer bag. The back pulls out and stow away for easy transport.

I am waiting for some cables to come in to finish. It will have USB sync and charge and a 3.5 mm pigtail stereo jack for audio out. Please email me if you are interested in ordering one.

Here are some pics of the Rosewood cradle without the cables. I'll post more pics after the cables are installed (I expect in about a week).

Will it work with the TC S650 Skin Case?
