Is there already any speech to SMS software out for the Treo 650? If not, man that would rule.

CES 2005 Samsung Electronics has developed a mobile phone that automatically converts speech into text. Rather than rely on cramming words in tiny fonts onto a small screen, users can just dictate. Samsung's new technology - VoiceMode - is incorporated in the new Samsung p207 phone, which will initially be shipped to the US.

wow, I can't wait for the day my phone can convert speech to sms text and then the person on the receiving end can convert the sms text back to speech. and be able to do that back and forth all in real time. that would be technology.

then maybe the sms text could carry a some sub code where the converting sms text could be converted in the voice of the sender. I imagine in the future receiving a sms text message where my phone could convert it into the speech of the sender. ahh but i'm a dreamer.

What would be the point of : voice > text > text > voice? Just sending voice messages can be done now through most voice mail systems.

But yeah, speach > text would be nice.

Man. There really needs to be a universal internet sarcasm symbol for the unenlightened, such as myself.

Ok I guess that wasn't taken too well... For those of us who don't really want to talk to the person on the other end of the line and would like to zip them a quick message I think it would be quite handy to hit a button speak a message and send it to the person in text format, not convert it back to voice on the other end. I agree that would be silly.

That would be handy for sms, email, and chat programs. I think voice signal is working on something like that but so far only for samsung. Check out the link.

Here's another link of the speech to text capable Samsung p207. I'm sure it'll just be a matter of time before the software becomes available for our treo.

    Samsung rules

    That would be nice...
Can an intelligence create another intelligence more intelligent than itself? Are we more intelligent than the evolutionary process that created us? In turn, will the intelligence that we are creating come to exceed that of its creator?

Also think about the advantages for deaf people in having speech to text.
