I have been hearing about softwares such as cruisecontrol and afterburner, what exactly do they do???????

I am sure Cruse Control is pretty similar; Afterburner is a software hack that overclocks the visor. The newer versions allow selective overclocking (ie, speeding up the visor only for certain programs).

Overclocking shortens battery life; there have been no studies to determine whether CPU life is adversely affected as well (due to heat dissipation concerns - common in PC Overclocking). I myself have never needed to overclock; the only program that I have that might require overclocking is quicksheet; and turning off auto-recalculation did the trick for me...
