UPDATED THREAD FOR SUCCESS - follow the steps below and it will work with the Acura HFL.

Phone settings - Allow Wakeup, Cache Enabled, Blutooth on, Discovery set to Yes.

    1) Initiate HLF, Say Phone Setup ,Pair
    2) Provide 1,2,3,4 as code, confirm with Yes
    3) On The Treo I then select Setup Devices and Handsfree Link shows up as a Nearby Device
    4) I select it and then OK - I am then prompted for the 4 digit code.
    5) I enter it and when I press done two things happen
    A) The MDX says it has found the phone
    B) When you Done on the 650, a message flashes by saying Disconnected and then the SUccess Message on the Treo.
    6) You then need to go the main phone screen - push the Green phone button - at that point the bluetoth icon has the white background indicating successful a connection and the car HFL display also shows success.

All is good after that and the phone and car find each other repeatedly no problem.

The step that is vital is going to the main phone screen AFTER Done in the BT screen- step 6. IF YOU SATY IN BT screens you will get the flashing BT icon and NO connection.

    ------------------ END OF UPDATE -------------------------

Posted this to the main car thread but it got buried I thinki a thread per car type will be useful for all of us..more findable and useful than the 14 page one

    Sooooo help please:

I have the new carkit installed on the 650. I paired once succesfully by initiating from the car - the car "said" initiating from the phone per the instructions from Palm was not OK. Made a call, got a call.

Then after that turned ogg BT and turned back on - Car will not recognize the phone again. I deleted all phones and tried pairing again - now the car will not even complete.

I use Phone Setup, Pair, provide a 4 digit code. Then I go on the 650 and use the select devices to find the HFL..Treo 650 identifies HFL then prompts me for the 4 digit code. When I enter the code on the phone, it then disconnects and the car issues the "disconnect" tone - no pairing.

I had discoverable on for the Treo but Allow Wakeup off. I tried again with Wakeup On - same bad result.

A few of you have stated success with Acura HFL.

Could you please provide the exact settings on the phone and the detailed step by step?

Have MDX and downloaded latest HFL program from palmone and had no trouble mating mdx with treo 650. Only problem has been when making outgoing call have to dial twice the first time I use it every time I get into car due to pairing issue. Afterwords works great the rest of the trip. And don't see signal strenght in car and haven't found a way to download address book to car. Otherwise, awesome.

So other then the succes the very first time (aftet that the car would not find the 650), I cannot connect at all - I have tried 10 times now. I have the latest carkit on the Treo. Could I ask you to please document in detail any differences in how you set it up - I will detail what I did:

Phone settings - Allow Wakeup, Cache Enables, Blutooth on, Discovery set to Yes.

    1) Initiate HLF, Say Phone Setup ,Pair
    2) Provide 1,2,3,4 as code, confirm with Yes

    4) I select it and then OK - I am then prompted for the 4 digit code.
    5) I enter it and when I press done two things happen
    A) The MDX says it has found the phone BUT
    B) As soon as I press Done on the 650, a message flashes by saying Disconnected and then the SUccess Message on the Treo.
    6) The car then does not show the phone and the Bluetooth icon on the Treo flashes from solid blue to the white and blue (indictaes a connection) - like it is searching for the car.
    7) Then the car emits the tones indicating a disconnect
    8) SOmetimes the car will have the phone listed with the name I gave it but no connection ever happens - the Treo always flashes the DIsconnect message after I enter the code and the car never shows a connection.

I have tried every version of settings and sequences. Any attempt to initiate discovery from the phone results in the MDX saying that one cannot initiate from the phone.

I have deleted all phones form the MDX and tried over and over.

    Help would be appreciated

I followed the exact same steps. I'm sure you have but just wanted to confirm that you downloaded the patch from palmone for the carkits? And from other posts on the forum allow wakeup should be on. I'd probably go back to acura if it is still not working or if you're bold maybe disconnect the battery cable and reconnect to perhaps truley reinitialize the bluetooth setup on the car. Please lt me know if you have any other questions or if I can help in any other way.

Thx. Yeah I did apply the patch - But I will again just to be sure The Treo is the one that diconnects when I press DOne after entering the code so I think the problems lies there...darnit!

The only other thing I could think of is just make sure that is the only bluetooth device hooked up (although it shouldn't matter and a clean reboot of the tro which I'm sure you did as well. Good luck!

Thx all - I got ti working and updated the thread title and first entry with the detailed steps. Now someone can flame me for a car-specific thread.

I think we should have one sticky thread per car....or one sticky thread with links to one per car...the huge thread is just not useful.

Have paired successfully 650 and mdx. However, two quirky things. First, incoming calls are picked up by Treo but not by mdx, so end up talking on Treo rather than handsfree system of mdx. And second, usually need to make TWO calls from Treo before handsfree recognition works properly when entering and leaving car. The first time, it recognizes and pairs successfully, but call does not go thru. After that, all calls work find outbound. Anyone else have these quirks or is it the way I initially paired by device? And I am using the recent palmone update for handsfree devices. Thanks for any help.

SOrry have not had much of a chance to use it - wife's car I will try in the next few weeks and post back

I found that turning off "discoverable" after pairing was complete, made things work very smoothly.

Thank you very much. Great advice on turning off "discoverable" mode. Still haven't successfully been able to answer a call using the mdx controls? Has anyone been able to do it and if so how? Thanks in advance for any help!

Hi all, I followed the steps on the beginning of the thread and now it works great! My big thing was I downloaded the HFL patch from palm but never installed it. So after I installed it and it reset the phone. Something was corrupt with the cars HFL, it would never "pair". I "cleared" the HFL in setup and "paired" again. Now everything works good.

The only thing I don't like is for the phone conversation volume to be audible, the voice menu is very loud. Sound quality is good.

P.S. No signal strength shows on 2005 MDX. Treo 650.

I am able to answer calls in the MDX. No signal meter though.

Thank you for the info. When the call comes in, do you just press the "Call" button on the mdx or just the call just come thru without pressing anything and you start talking? Do you have to press anything on the 650 to start talking? Thanks again!

I push the HFL button to the left of the steering wheel - the toggle one - toggle it towards me to anser. Togle it away to hang up.

Thank you so much for the quick reply. I'll try it again and see if it works this time. I wonder if there is an update on the mdx since we should all be using the same patch on the 650. Thanks again.

Is everyone STILL having the same problem as me? The first time I make a phone call EVERY time I get in my MDX, it clicks to Hands-free and then immediately clicks back to the Treo. After the first phone call, it then connects to the hands-free link. I never have a problem with it finding my phone, just the minor annoyance as described above. Anyone found a workaround for this yet?

I still have exactly the same problem and still have no work-around. Any suggestions are appreciated.

I posted this exact issue in the huge thread on individual auto results yesterday. I did din that initiating a call from the MDX seemed to work first time - I toggle towards me on the steering wheel switch, say Call blah and confirm. I also found that if I entered the car while on the Treo, I could also toggle the HFL towards me and say "Transfer" and it worked fine too.

That leads me to think it is somethig about the Treo - that first call that originates from the handset seems to be the issue.

There are a few other scenarios around first call as well to test. I have not tried having someone phone me once in the car to see if first inbound fails too. I also have not tried making an outbound from the Treo after having first done an outbound from the MDX. I will try these later and report back.

Here's a suggestion to all you lucky MDX owers whose model is apparently new enough to have bluetooth (mine is a 2002 pre-BT):

Save your BT pairing instructions in your Treo as well as your radio/head unit security code. When you have to change your car battery after ~ 2-3 years the settings will be lost. Trust me, this will occur when you have a six hour drive ahead of you and you won't be able to listen to your radio and you will need to re-pair your BT headset.
