Anybody using BTToggle for their T650? Seems like a nice utility to save battery life. Does Always-On BT really drain the battery significantly?

    BTToggle

I don't see any referance to using BTToggle on a T650 on their web site.

Yes...I was...until today that is. Not sure how much BT drains the battery BTW.

Anyway, the version of BtToggle on the whizoo website works on the Treo 650, but it does have one annoying behavior. When BT is switched back off, the Treo 650 displays a few confirmation dialogs that BtToggle did not trap. I emailed the developer about it and he sent me a version that had a fix for it...works like a charm. I have not seen an updated version on their website...but then again, the version he sent me also did not have a version number increment. So perhaps he silently replaced the downloadable version on the website with the Treo 650 fixed version.

Today I ran into an issue between BtToggle and Chapura's KeySuite, but I'll spare you the details unless you are a KeySuite user and want to know.

Send me PM....I don't want to open a floodgate here. This version still needs a registration number, so I know I am not short-changing the developer. But it is still his copyright, and I do not know if he is already distributing this trial version, so he may not want me to. I'd say try the version off the whizoo website first. As soon as BtToggle toggles BT off, if it doesn't pop up with two repeated questions asking you to turn it on, you have the 650 enabled version.

I am also realizing more now that BtToggle was developed with non-phone PDAs in mind...like the T3. I am not sure how it will work in conjuncion with using a BT Headset with the T650 (don't have a BT headset yet).

I believe awesterink is referring to BTToggle v2.5, which Peter freely sent to me after an inquiry about a month ago now. however, i found a very significant but even with this version. here's a copy of what I described to Peter in an email:

"i missed several calls today while bttoggle was on. the phone did not even ring. i just happened to turn on my treo and there was a dialog box that says BT is off and whether i want to trun it on. after making my selection, i then see the usual screen as if the phone call just came in (although even for known phone #s it shows "unknown caller"). however, when i select "answer", i see the box that usually indicates a missed call..."

awesterink, have you had this problem and if not, what version are YOU using?

As a side note that may make this conversation moot: I've found that having BT on all day did not seem to impact my batter usage in any significant fashion. Peter says he will not be able to fix this bug until he gets a GSM 650...

Not sure what version....now that you mention it I think you are right, I believe the version he sent me was 2.5 as well.

At the moment I have BtToggle removed as it does not play nice with Chapura KeySuite. Not Peter's fault, but due to the fact that Chapura implemented part of his library with the T3 in mind, forcing BT on when you dial a contact. On the T650 that results in BT going on, then off. Don't really want another delay on top of the already slow dialing of the T650.

They only time I noticed something similar as what you are describing is when you press the Phone button the first time after you have switched the Phone on. It will then turn BT off.

Have you guys heard of BTmute?

    Uhm..yes...but..why do you ask?

BtMute is a utility that automates a workaround for low volume on some BT headsets, such as the Motorola HS810/820/850. If you hit mute while on a call and then cancel mute, the volume for some reason gets cranked up to a more acceptable level. BtMute automates that task of muting and unmuting as soon as you pick up or place a call.

Yeah mine too. But if I recall correctly when he sent me this version, he referred to it as 2.5-in-the-works. Or something.

No longer an issue with the latest version of KeySuite. But that short of it was that KeySuite is "BtToggle aware", meaning that when you dial a contact from KeyContacts it will check if the BtToggle library is available, and if so it would turn BT on. The issue is...you had NO control over that behavior. I think Chapura designed that with Tungsten PDAs in mind, where turning on BT makes perfect sense to make a call via a BT enabled phone. But for the Treo it was just plain annoying. Anyway...problem solved.

I just purchased btToggle from the website and experiencing the problems mentioned in this thread, so this update isnt available on his site.

I have bt toggle set up and everytime I turn on BT it works fine. When I turn it back OFF I get a dialogue box that says "Bluetooth is off. Do you want to turn it on?"

This dailogue box appears twice, and If I select CANCEL both times BT turns off.

This only happens when I TURN OFF BT. Turning on is BT works fine.

This happens regardless of the method (hard key, Apps, etc.)

I am runnning the Classic version (ver 1.8)
