Mine works but apparently you have to backup with the radio off.

I've been using the 1.52b5 since it was released, and it's been working without a problem, radio on or off.

same as 7zero I have no problems. I use scheduled backups at 10 PM with radio on. actully sometimes I would be on the web and backupman kicks in when it is done I continue surfing. I think the radio off/on issue is more related to other 3rd party software

Have you restored the backup made when the radio was on? Then tried hotsyncing?

This brings out the memory corruption...

Thanks for the heads up !!
I was backing up every day not knowing about this....
Will do a manual backup with radio off ASAP

What do people do now for automated backups without having to turn off radio?

    Thanks again

I have been making backups with the radio on and restoring with I think, no problems. What should I be looking for with memory corruption? What are the signs of that?

I just installed the 1.52 beta on my Treo 600. I'm seeing a problem:

After backing up with 1.52, I then attempted a restore using 1.52 from
the memory card (as you would do if you had a new device or after a
hard reset. I did not do a hard reset first.) THE TREO 600 RESET DURING
THE RESTORE. (In my case, because I didn't hard reset the T600 first,
I still had the files from before the backup.)

Next I ran the restore using 1.52 from the applications screen (on the
device instead of on the card). This properly restored without the reset.

Next I repeated the restore using 1.52 from the SD card, and still got the
reset again. This time I checked ##377 which reported the following:

    System Error Log
A reset was caused on 1/8/05 at 3:19 pm while running "BackupMan":

    MemoryMgr.c, Line: 3654, Free handle

This version is completely useless to me, on a Treo 600 if I'm going to get
a reset instead of a restore. I wanted to try 1.52 in the event that my
Treo ever gets "upgraded" from a T600 to T650. (I know I'd have to do
a "selective" restore on a 650, and the best way to is to initially install
the new T650 from a "PC", but I wanted to see if this would work.)

My next steps: try selective restores to see if any one given file is causing
the problem (or if it happens after the n'th file, etc.) I just wanted to
warn T600 users not to use 1.52 until the issues are understood and/or
    fixed.

EDIT #1: This looks like a memory problem, as when in the "restore
individual files" mode, the problem did not occur, because between
every file, I got a yes/no popup message indicating that the file was
already on my device. I had selected all of the files and answered Yes
to each prompt and did not get the reset. (In practice, if restoring to
a device that was previosly hard reset, I would not get the popup and
would probably run into the reset. An option, in doing such a restore
might be to limit the number of files being restored to a small number
of files in multiple passes in order to avoid the reset.) Maybe this might
have something to do with the amount of free memory on my Treo 600,
but I think I have plenty of free space:
    Applications->Menu->Info
    Free Space: 9.1 M of 32.1M

The next step in my test would be to hard-reset the device and see
what actually happens, but I do not want to risk not being able to
restore my files. (I'm pretty confident that I could work around the
problem using the method I suggested above, but I'd rather have
"Bits n Bolts Software" take the risk than me.

Does anyone know if BitsNBolts reads this board? (I will email this link
to support@bitsnbolts.com as that seems to be the only way to
submit a bug report to them.

EDIT #2: I downloiaded the prc fro 1.51 because I wanted to go back to
the previous version. After installing this (over the air as opposed to a
hotsync install), the Treo went into a continuous reset. At this point I
hard reset the device and tried suggestion #2 (restoring after a hard
reset). This worked (both in full and selective restores). My theory is
that this worked because after a hard-reset, I had much more memory
    on my T600.

Next steps: 1) BitsNBolts has to tell people how to avoid the continuous
reset after going back to a previous release (in case anyone ever has
to do this). 2) BitsNBolts should code a fix to work around not having
enough memory during a restore on a T600. In practice, both of these
issues are "low to mediium" priority (since I was able to work around all
the issues). Severity is low because workarounds exist, but this all
should be documented so users know what to do. Priority for
documenting workarounds should be classified as "high".

Ahh, that explains the problems I had. Maybe I should give it another chance with the radio off. I deleted it and switched to BackupBuddy.

The main problem with the radio staying on is that the radio somehow keeps a lock open on the calendarDB-Pdat file and causes it to not be backed up corretly. So when you restore, you lose all of your calendar entries! Doesn't make sense but that is what is happening.

Another problem I've found with BackupMan v1.52b5 is it does not restore your custom memo categories, rather, it resets it back to the 3 default categories.

This may not be a BackupMan problem. I had this happening to my calendar contacts but I found out it was becaue I deleted the default categories and replaced them with my own. P1 decided that if it didn't see "Persoanl and Business" in the list of categories, that it would restore the category list back to a known state! So it deleted all of my changes and restored the default list!!!!!!

Did you do somehting like this with the categories in the Memo DB?

I've reflashed my ROM a half dozen times, and each time did a backup just before, and restore with it. Every time the radio's been on, and I've never had a problem, including hotsyncing. I will turn the radio off next time - but I have honestly never encountered the issue. No idea why...

Jeff, do you think this may have been the cause of the following Hotsync error that I'm getting:

    Outlook Calendar
The attempt to open the database failed.
Date Book application database is not found. Please invoke the Date Book application on the handheld once and re-synchronize
    OLERR:05-0001
    OLERR:0D-0004
    OLERR:0D-0001
    - Not Synchronized
    Outlook Calendar synchronization failed

    OLERR:15-0002
    OLERR:06-0001

I've tried everything to fix this but cannot and I think it did start occurring after a restore (from a backup created by Backupman with the phone on).

Any ideas on a fix? Bitsnbolts is not giving me much help...

Sure We should have all known to turn off your radio, and toss salt over your shoulder before you you attempt a backup. Oh don't forg that you have to do this Only during a full moon.

I managed to back up and restore Ok once, but now I cannot backup at all without getting an error message (out of memory 0x0201). I have a lot of files including large ones. I have about 4-7 megs free on device and at least 20 or 100+ on card. Never had probs with 600 but now I can't backup a set at all... I've tried erasing all sets on card and starting over.

    Using:

    New Beta 1.5
    512mb card
    4+ free on 650
    100+ free on card
Radio On (but it worked fine before)
Largest file: 1.9 meg ( no go with 909k also)
Zlauncher (lots of files linked to card)

My experience with BackupMan is well documented in this thread...
