    Hi all,

    Just posted version 6.50 (b014) at www.shsh.com/beta

    Changes from version 6.50 (012)
    - FIND: Another fix for Treo searching – search first, last only (like built-in).
    - FIND: Show search string while searching.
    - Treo 650: Filter side button in all screens (allow default behaviour)

    Thanks.

I think I may have found a very strange, but bad problem with TAKEphONE on the T650. Has anyone else seen this?

Since installing this last week, multiple times my preferences file (either unsaved or saved) has become corupted and caused a reset of the device. In most cases I have been able to restore from a backup.

I have tried removing TAKEphONE from the phone to see if these problems continue.

Anyone else seen this -- preferences gone, HotSync name gone, etc. Since installing TAKEphONE for the T650?

    Thanks,
    Jeff

Sorry to hear about this trouble.

And you think it's TAKEphONE because of the timing ?
Maybe it's related to the memory issues with the Treo 650 ?
(TAKEphONE hardly approaches the saved prefs file)
Could it be TAKEphONE just happened to be the "last straw on the camel's back" with your memory ?

In short - I call too to anyone else who expirienced this (or did not expirience this) (or expirienced this without TAKEphONE installed) to let us know.

Please let me know if removing TAKEphONE solved this (although if I am right and this has to do with the memory issues - removing TAKEphONE may indeed help - as would removing any other app).

    Shimon

The new way you do the look ups is great. I really like how the names are displayed in the box and how the letters we've typed are highlighted. Very cool. Much nicer than the way it was done on 6.0

Any eta on the hi res skins?

    keep up the good work.

Thanks! B014 is doing much nicer searches. Limiting the "treo searches" has really changed that feature from totally annoying to quite useful.

Now a question? If I type "sanf" TAKEphONE finds contacts with "San Francisco" in their fields. But if I type in "san f" (with the space) then it says that it is searching for "san&f" and it only finds contacts with those two words in different fields. But it won't find a single field with "San Francisco" in it. I have set TAKEphONE to find in words. Is this the intended behavior or a bug??

It's pretty easy. Just use prcedit to change the bitmaps in an existing skin. Create the images in an editor of your choice.

I am currently looking into updating a bunch of skins I've made for the Treo 600. Don't have a 650 yet, but I will also look into hi res skins as well.

This is a great move forward over 6.0! One question.... When I tap and hold the CLR button, the entire field is cleared (as expected). When I use the hard buttons (Treo 600), and press center button with CLR highlighted, I need to repeatedly tap it to clear the field one letter at a time. Holding the center button clears one letter, then the CLR button stops being highlighted. I don't know if this matters, but I have phonetoolspro installed (which uses press of center button in Phone app to bring up menu of minutes used; it does nothing (as it shouldn't) in takephone.

I do think it is TAKEphONE because of the timing, yes. I had the problem 3 times in 4 days. In the 3 days since I removed TAKEphONE I haven't had the problem. And I've made very few other changes in the last week.

It is possible that it is some sort of a conflict between TAKEphONE and another app. But I don't have anything strange installed.

I will post a message to the general T650 board and see if others have had this problem.

    Thanks,
    Jeff

    Hi,

Yes - this is intentional - I use SPACE for the & operator.

    Hi,

You are correct - I do not use long presses on the OK button.

What I meant was - maybe you just "run out" of memory (because of the issues with memory on the device) when you installed TAKEphONE (who just happened to be "the last straw")...

As I said - TAKEphONE hardly uses the save prefs file...

I don't think I would be running out of memory. I have about 7.5 MB of free storage. And as far as the number of contacts causing problems when TAKEphONE is running, I have only about 300 contacts.

TAKEphONE is awesom! I downloaded this program wondering what they hype could be. The built in contact manager seemed adequate to me. And to pay $20 for it, I thought was crazy. . .

Then I tired it. Wow. This takes searching and acessibility to another level. It's awesome. For example, if I had a first name entry of Tom & Jane, with last name Doe, I had to remember to type tdoe rather than jdoe - no longer do I have that worry. The searching is terrific. I still haven't paid the $20 but doubt I will be able to swtich back, so the purchase is probably inevitable! Great work!

I do have a problem, however, that I wonder if others would also echo.

I have contacts for which I have multiple numbers that a simple "Work" "Mobile" etc designation is not adequate for. For example, a contact may have two cell numbers or two work numbers or I may have a friend entered as one contact with the husband's cell and the wife's cell… Simply put, I need to be able to give some more description to these numbers.

On my Treo 300 and then also on my Treo 600, this was not a problem as I would preface the phone number with text – i.e. San Francisco: 555-555-5555; Chicago: 312-555-5555. That worked great. Then when the 650 came along, anything prefaced by text was ignored (it doesn't even show up as a number on the contact dial screen, just a blank. So I moved it to he end of the number – which kind of works but it messes up caller id because the incoming call doesn't contain the text thus not an exact match thus no caller id. TAKEphONE helps because it shows the text, but I still have the caller id problem. Caller ID is also a problem with extension numbers.

Is there any way to add a descriptor to the phone numbers that doesn't mess up the caller id and doesn't prompt dialing of extra digits? Probably not, but it's odd that there isn't. Am I the only one with this type of problem? Can the awesome TAKEphONE solve this problem?

    Thanks,

    Keith

    Hi,

That's exactly what the memory issue is (as far as I understand it from reports) - users have device reporting several FREE MB, but still have memory problems (because of the way the new FLASH memory system allocates memroy chunks).

Can anyone else share expiriences like this ?
    (not neccesary with TAKEphONE)

Thanks so much for your kind words.

And - sorry - TAKEphONE does not solve your problem with text within a number...

How about using the additional custom fields (you can rename those) ?
TAKEphONE will allow you to reffer to those as phone number fields (i.e. dial them). I know it's not a perfect solution, but...
