Is there a difference besides number and type of slots? What should I look for? Any preferences.

    Thanks!

I like the internal card readers, you will need an empty 5 1/4" slot. They come in many versions. Here's a link to a few.

Another alternative to card readers (although not as functional) is software like Softick's Card Export (http://www.softick.com/cardexport/). For now, I have been using this software and it has worked great for me, though there are probably more advantages to actually having a card reader.

It really depends on what you need to do with the card. If you are just transferring small files to your card, Card Export would probably be the way to go. I'm not an expert on this, but I am assuming if you were loading large files (such as movies etc.) onto the card a card reader would probably perform better in that situation.
