    Hey Guys and Girls,

I downloaded afterburner, and it makes my screen look horrible. Any Ideas?

Be a bit more specific...what do you mean by horrible? (e.g. too dark, blurry, wavy, distorted, etc.)

Regarding how it looks, it is darker in some areas, lighter in others, and has streaky lines runing up and down the screen. It looks like when you unevenly ink a rubber stamp. To much ink in some areas, not enough in others, and lines running up and down.

    Any Ideas?

Sounds like you need to add some toner. Are you getting a "low toner" message?

Have you tried the Palm OS 3.1.1 patch? I had pretty much the same problem until I installed it. It's available at http://www.palm.com/custsupp/downloads/upd311.html

That does sound horrible. I am not an expert, but I can speak from experience and say that Afterburner doesn't affect my Visor in this way.

A suggestion: It has been discussed on this board that Palm OS patch 3.1.1 is helpful in eliminating streaking display problems. I have it istalled and perhaps this is why I am having no trouble. (I am running at 26 MHz.) http://www.palm.com/custsupp/downloads/upd311.html

Hope this helps. Hopefully someone who knows what they are talking about will drop in and help out if this doesn't work.

Whoops! I guess it takes me too long to type! Two responses to your problem since I pushed the 'respond' button. What a great discussion board!

What you need is NoStreakHack to get rid of the flicker and streaks. You can search for it at http://www.palmgear.com

I had the same problem with AfterBurner at first. Then I realized that it was only greyscale apps that were being washed out. Setting those apps to "normal" (mostly games, and AvantGo) prevents the streaking. Haven't had to upgrade to 3.1.1 or use any streak hacks. So far.

Thanks Guys for all of the help. I somehow fixed the problem, but I am unsure which fix worked. I first downloaded the palm os upgrade, and it did not work. I did the same with nostreak hack, and it did not work, even messing with the refresh rate. The funny thing is when I would turn off the afterburner hack, the streaks would disappear. Then I found what I think my problem was. I am running ezback drop. I lowered the speed of that program back to normal. Then I turned off the backdrop, played around with the nostreak hack refresh rate, untill the screen looked sharp, then turned on ezbackdrop. Viola no streaks!

    Thanks for the help again!

While on the subject of the Palm OS upgrade 3.1.1, there has been a previous discussion regarding the merits of installing such a patch. See:
    http://discussion.visorcentral.com/F...ML/000141.html

The bottom line of that discussion appears to be that the Visor OS 3.1h's code may be more efficient speedwise and that upgrading to 3.1.1 may introduce some of the "old" bugs that HS has since fixed in 3.1h. Having said that I think it's agreed upon that there is no permanent "damage" to your visor for installing it since it is only a "ram os update".

Gretz99: I ran PocketMark before and after installing the 3.1.1 patch. There was no difference in speed. I also get the same results as they do here in their article "Speed Comparison" at http://www.visorcentral.com/article.php3?id=28&pv=1
