    Ok......

Here are some ideas that I would like to see in this app.

    * General Phone Settings (i.e. sounds, color settings, wallpaper screen etc.)
    * Active Profile Status (Ability to be able to easily determine which profile is currently active.)
    * Multiple profiles support (Ability to create a profile for work, sleep, home, etc.)
    * Scheduled/Timed Profiles (Ability to change profiles at a given time or for a scheduled event integrate with date book)

Everyone please add to this thread!!!!!

    Lets get to work!

I will be happy to beta test any pre-release versions!

I would LOVE it if it managed to blend Natcho's Profeo Lite and Milan's Profiles

I like Milan's profiles that can be set to create many different profiles, and I really like Profeo except that you really can't override the timed profiles with another profile quickly

One requirement for the uber profile app for me would be the radio. Profiles doesn't manipulate the radio and Profeo seems to lose out in shutting the radio down to other apps that maybe using a data connection, i.e. background email check or IM client

I would really appreciate it if someone would help define the outline of the functionality you would like to see in this application. I think just combining the apps is not enough. I'd like to take it to the next level with this effort. How wants to take a crack at putting together some requirements for me to work from? Personally I would like to see profiles have several key drivers: Time, activity and location. Thoughts???

    Lets get the ideas flowing.

My preferences, but at least it's a starting point:

    1. Operation

The application should be started with a single press of the side button. A simple menu would pop up over the active screen with the list of available profiles. The up/down buttons should select between available profiles & a second press of the side button should accept & apply the profile. Most modern Motorola phones follow this convention. The user should have the option of disabling the side button in the Phone application. The master configuration screen will allow definition of profiles, master enable/disable setting and trigger definition.

    2. Functionality

The application should be able to control alert tones, ring tones, tone volumes, earpiece volume, screen brightness, keyboard backlight, security, color theme and call forwarding. Integration of 3rd-party ringtone managers is desired, but not required.

    3. Scheduling

The user should have the ability to define a schedule for applying different profiles. This schedule should, at minimum, allow different schedules for weekdays & weekends.

    4. Triggers

The user should have the ability to define triggers that apply a particular profile (reference how the Motorola MP200 behaves or Milan Votava's application for this). Triggering of profiles may be based on Palm native calendar events or received SMS messages.

    5. Default profile

The user should be able to define a default profile that is applied upon reset

    6. Switchback

The manual selection of a profile should allow the user to select a "Switchback" timeout; that, when passed, reverts to a default or previously selected profile.

I am so glad that you are on board with this. You were an absolute PLEASURE to do beta testing for ScreenCare!!!

I can't wait to get starting but I will formulate an organized, coherent diatribe before spewing an amalgamation of incoherent thoughts

Good beginning! Lets keep it coming. I'd like to get started on this early next week.

Has anyone mentioned sound profiles based on Availability status in Outlook. My Samsung i600 did this and it was very nice. If Outlook indicated a meeting, the meeting profile was used- vibrate, one beep, volume level of ringer, etc. Really miss this.

I like all of hood's ideas, except I would want to choose which button activated the program. Using the option button for this on my 600 was very instinctive and I never activated it by accident. Also, I have never been a fan of messing with the volume buttons as I use them to control the volume on a regular basis. Therefore, this should also be customizable (I wouldn't want to force my own preferences on someone else!).

    Thanks Jeff (and Shadow too),
    You guys just plain RULE!

I like this idea a lot. It will be included.

I agree completely. The "do it my way" isn't very nice for developers to do in their code. (Unless of course it is me doing the coding and then its "what ever is easiest for me to implement! )

Is there a way to create a "treo at a glance" screen? What I mean is a screen that the user can bring up that would tell the user

    * the current active profile
    - with current volume/vibrate level
    * if it us a "timed profile" when the "default profile" will again become active
    * Current security level (Hidden, Masked, or Show records)

and maybe anything else that a user may want to see all at once.....

    Just throwing ideas out there....

One nice feature that Milan's application has is that you can get a quick on-screen notifier of the current profile whenever you power the Treo on.

Jeff - I look forward to seeing what you put together.

I don't want to go off topic, but I really want to thank you jeffgibson for everything you are doing for the Treo community. It is great to see a developer, who within minutes of posting about an app idea, is there and asking for ideas. I love to see that. Thanks.

Something like I have in CradleCare for forwarding information?

I appreciate the kind words. I try to do my best to help others while at the same time, get solutions to the things that I want my Treo to do (and control over making them work right - and at times work wrong - but then the ability to quickly fix them again......).

Yes - however, I did not use CradleCare past the initial evaluation. On the T600, it couldn't detect between a "live" connection to a host PC and a "charge-only" connection. It kept trying to sync whenever I'd put my T600 in the car cradle (Seidio's). Haven't used it on the T650, though.

What I was referring to is the brief on-screen notifier option that Milan's application has that will show you which profile is active when you power the T600 up.

Point conceded - You & Jeff both make good points. I'm cool with having activation method configurable - as long as I may configure it with side button to activate/confirm & volume buttons to select. The last pre-Treo phone I had was the Motorola V60 & it used this layout very effectively.

So, Jeff - have you determined a price range for this app yet? I'd gladly pay up to $25, but it'd need to be either a) uber-cool or b) the only game in town for me to go higher.

So, I have thought about more extensively, and here is what I have to say about what I want in the Super Profile app

First, I have to say that it is important to establish multiple profiles, at least 8.

The profiles should control: radio, ring, BT for the 650, vibrate, screen illumination, keyboard illumination. Basically, everything that simple profile manager does, with the addition of controling the radio. Radio control is the only clear advantage of Profeo AFAIKAFAIKAFAIK

That said, there should also be triggers, such as events and times, that is present in Profiles. However, it would be nice to order and control the priority of the triggers also, rather than a fixed order, which can be found on MTDN in a thread there where Milan explains the defined order of triggers.

A clear advantage of Profiles to Profeo is that one can over-ride the current profile with another profile, whereas Profeo only allows one to make small changes. I like be able to shift profiles quickly, while still maintaining a general rotating order in the background

Also, make sure that the radio control is able to override other apps that may try maintain the connection. Profeo succumbs to this so the radio control is not particularly effective

So, basically, add radio control and control of the priority of the triggers to Milan's profiles and it will then be the mother of all profile apps, IMHO
