Hope you're right about that for Mr. faisal's sake..

Well he indicated in his posts that she knew he was getting feedback from people who were using it and that they were watching the thread at P!. Even posted some emails from the P1 person. Nothing said dont distribute or "proprietary" or "confidential. They took the inititive and sent it to him. Unless they had him sign something that said "Top Secret, Do not distribute to anyone else or your tallywacker will fall off" then he is ok.

This is cool! While you at it, can U also fix the memory issue and replace the NVFS with one that works??

With this we can port Windows Mobile to the Treo 650! The problem would be matching all the hardware across... Mainly we'll use it to move files we want in and out of rom to conserve the already limited memory on the device...

So this ROM updater sounds like it's release is equivalent to, say, releasing the source code to Windows? Wow, I don't know about any of that stuff, but I'm glad I have a crystal-clear voice when talking on my 650!

Nah, it's not that awesome, but it does provide for us a known working bootloader complete with the flasher that is console driven. In other words, this is meant to be robust for their internal purposes... This loader was never meant to be released.

No, not source code. It's more like unlimited access a BIOS...

I see visions of my own persoal load for the TREO 650 dancing in my head:
    NO:
    Real Player
    Welcome
    versamail
    download
    bc download
    <all other "junk">
    Add:
    Butler
    Technician
    filez
<other small apps that will fit in the open space>

THis would be great in that all future "hard resets" would result in my base apps still being there. Of course, this only works until an "official" patch that is must have comes out.
IT will also reduce my total mem usage since some of the apps move to ROM!
I eagerly await the spify polished version that shadowmite and others will soon come up with...

Do I see an extra 2M of storage on the device now w/o having Real Player and VersaMail (MultiMail)?
    That would rock..
  9. #149
The biggest thing will be the fact that everyone has different interests/likes/dislikes in their program load... For instance, I LOVE Versamail, but hate Realplayer... So we need to create a couple different sets.

Now, based on this loader, it's highly likely we can keep using this same loader even for the new releases with some mods. We'll fight to keep this ability!

Mytreo . net had the patch and the instructions on their forum but no they are: "Forum is currently in maintenance mode! We are currently upgrading our forum. Please see the site front page for more details." Real maintenace or shutting down the site b/c of big brother?

forgive my ignorance - but is there anyway to create a config file where you could check off what you want and didn't want and then that would feed the bootloader or something else to create on the fly the bootloader that person wanted? Thinking further on that note, if, like some others have suggested, you could also tag programs to PUT into rom from this "install" program - just think, total treo customization..

Is this even possible? I'm relating this to a "custom install" of any software package you could select items and then click GO and it would create the bootloader for your device.

I think Big Brother would have shutdown the whole site not just the forum.

I think it would be stupid for P1 to shutdown any 'mods' to the T650. It only encourages the spread and use of the device.

Agreed... I think they are just worried about the loader... I'm reversing it now... Here are some things I have found:

list - List the ROM images.
    ace [filename] - Update Ace.'
angus [force] [filename] - Update Angus.' (THIS THING DOES THE T5 TOO!)
    reset
    listcards
    Vol: 0x%x Attr: 0x%Lx
    updatebinfs

    Oh heck... This is awesome:

Shadow - i'm curious what program is best used for MD5 checksum. It seems like that's all i would need to complete a version removing realplayer and then the "welcome" "tutorial" and "get bc".

I'm like you, i actually like versamail. Glad i DL'ed the new rom, original rom, and isntructions before it got taken down.

    Look for md5.exe

    Shadow-

Any possibilities with my previous musing or is that such in the realm of sci-fi?

I just wanted to take the time to officially apologize to my contacts at PalmOne for distributing the software.

My intent was to help all out and obtain feedback from the users so we can perfect the sound to be perfect.

In the effort to help them and all my fellow TREO owners i did not take into account the ramifications of sending the software out could have done to them and or sprint or other fellow TREO owners who could have potentially fried their unit.

SOrry again to PalmOne and the great people who helped me.

They are very concerned about this and are dedicated to finding a solution. I know that for sure.

Good Luck, You will not be hearing from me anymore on this issue.

Thank you for your (unneccessary) apology. You didn't mean any ill will and unless I am mistaken, no one told you to not distribute it. Now that there is an "issue" - the files have been pulled and that's all that really needs to be said/done about it.
