    Got the same email also.

But on another note, I also have an SD card. What is the best memory software to allow apps to run off the SD card?

So is everyone on backorder? How can such a cheap and plentiful item be backoredered? I bought two at a department store this week and they had hounders more at that location. The the store is a national chain. They must have houndreds of thousnads of these things in department stores. Why can't P1 have the thousand or so that it needed? Sounds pretty lame, but expected.

Think twice before buying the cheap, not-so-SMART card listed above -- it doesn't comply with SD specs, and may damage your phone! PalmOne has a KB article at www.palmone.com/cgi-bin/cso_kbURL.cgi?ID=28365. It tells you what to look for to make sure a card is okay.

BTW, SimpleTech is a well-regarded manufacturer of SD and other memory cards. Their SD cards up to 128MB are decent speed (2MB/sec), and the 256MB cards and larger are high speed (10MB/sec). Some cards (e.g. PNY/Toshiba) are extremely slow, especially at writing (reading usually isn't a problem). My understanding is that the Panasonic SD cards are the speed kings, but expensive; while SimpleTech's 256+ are quite fast and competitively priced.

Please note that this is based on online research, but no personal experience.

I agree. If you are going to tell the public and the press you're going to do right by your customers then stay true to your word. Everyone is getting the backorder email.
With this thread everyone can see how palmone does business. This is my first experience with them. So far it sucks! I've gotten more support here on treocentral than I have with palmone. Onward to the forums, where I get real answers/solutions to questions/problems! This is palm ones humbug for the holidays!

Also; they've taken out the help/support number to call if you can't find your cd sleeve. It used to be on the web page; now it's not. Bad Customer Service; very Bad Customer Service!

Get a load of this, I received this yesterday from P1 regarding the 128SD card, they are solving a current problem by offering a product they do not have!

    Gee thanks, Palm One.

    So very very generous.....
Why not just get the card so they have to pay the shipping and the 16 cents for the card. You might just find a use for it. I ordered mine, even tho I have no use for it. If they are that stupid, let them pay for it...even if it is only 16 cents.

Perhaps the reason they do not want to ship is that they want to wait until Jan. 1 to incurr the cost on their books. This way they can show higher profits for 04.

Or even worse, perhaps Palm doesn't want to pay for them until 04.

How many people thought I was full of **** when I said that the difference between Palm and Handspring's customer (dis)service was like night and day.

P1 doesn't want your business, plain and simple. Do you ever get the idea that they are just a front for some other kind of business, because they kick their customers in the gonads every, single, solitary chance they get.

Handspring kept Palm devices alive, PalmOne is going to kill them altogether, and sell the business to someone else. Probably Apple or Microsoft.

Remember, you heard it here first.

Good Point! They are most likely to sell and concede to MS.

I noticed that. And I *have* my CD sleeve, there's just no "ID #" on it. (Bought it directly from PalmOne, too.) So I called PalmOne and just kept mashing numbers until I got a real live person on the phone. After 10-15 minutes I finally got a nice person who knew exactly what I was talking about, took my info and said the SD card would be on its way. Got the email but no card yet.

What's annoying is that this card is worth $0.10. And even with it, it doesn't solve the fundamental problem, not all apps can run directly off the card. And using a utility app like Zlauncher or PowerRun to shuttle the data back and forth is annoying & slow. (not to mention cost additional $$!) If Palm gave us the card, (256 or 512 would've been nicer) and also updated the OS & launcher to handle those shuttling functions for us, I might be appeased. Hell, license Zlauncher for us! But my gut tells me they will point to this "card freebie" as their "solution" and we'll never hear a peep from them again about it. I doubt they'll actually fix the underlying problem with NVFS either.

What is most depressing is that none of this would be an issue if they just shipped the damn thing with internal 64 MB or more...

You guys need to stop crying. It's a phone, not a laptop. PalmOne has manufactured a product and for what they have manufactured the phone as released works quite well. Sure less contacts, but I bet that is a problem for 1% of Treo Users... Everyone is mad because they can't install apps (half of which Palm doesn't even know about) on a PDA / Phone. If you want to do all this stuff, quit being cheap and pony up the other half of the $1200 for a laptop... Apple and Sony make them pretty small now.

I spoke to a guy I've known for years at PalmOne (I live in Santa Clara) and told him about the 1GB SD I bought for it and he was flabbergasted. He couldn't understand why. When I told him about the apps I had and the media I stored he looked at me and said "well those are cool novelties, but a movie... on that small screen, get a laptop, it's ajust a PDA phone"

People still would have complained about 64MB internal because that would only hold a few MP3's or a short clip...who cares about using a phone for contacts, calendar and mail.

Jesus, grow up, if the phone is that bbad, excercise your right to save $600 and buy somethingelse.

I think that sums up PalmOnes bad attitude right there if they don't even know that we all use our Treos for everything. Do they not read TreoCentral?
Why do they even work at PalmOne if they are not creative power users?

Smartphones have been around long enough for them to know that they are used for anything and everything these days. That should not come as a shock to them at all. Wake up PalmOne. "Just a PDAphone", that's just sick.
