At present I have 16.5 MB free. I have Los Angeles Co. 15 mb and Orange Co. about 8 mb in separate directories on my card. Im using Zlauncher and running Mapopolis from the card while KB Lights is in the RAM. Also it doesnt matter what kind of search (mile wise) I do, as long as the auto mode is set it will crash. If you need any other info let me know.

I've just installed this app ... very helpful indeed! Thanks for your work, silverado.

I guess folks just feel weird installing a 30-day demo of something that will eventually require registration and we don't even know how much it's going to cost. I'd hate to get hooked on it and then see you've gone crazy and decided to charge $20 for it or something.

Please keep it reasonably priced and we'll beat down your door to pay for it.

Just received my new Treo 650, and I love it. I also love this app. Very useful and helpful. I like not having to worry about the keyboard lights being on all the time, even when I have absolutely no use for them.

    This app does the job.

I downloaded the LA county map (14.9 M), placed it in /Maps/CA on my SD card, changed Mapopolis to that directory and viewed the map. I then zoomed in to somewhere and did the search for police within 50 miles. The search completed successfully (in about 14 seconds) and I had no crash. I have 5 megs of RAM free and Auto mode was on. Were you in a parent directory of both LA and Orange counties (so you would be searching in both)? If not, can you think of any other apps on your device that could be in play here?

    Fofer,

Don't worry, I guarantee you that I won't intentionally go crazy!

Seriously though, the price will be reasonable and it should be announced within a week. It will conincide with everything being setup to register.

Regarding the Mapopolis issue - when I was trying it I received occasional lockups while doing an address search also, and that was before KBLightsOff even existed (over 1 month ago). Mapopolis sent me the 650 specific version, but that was on 11/24, so I don't know if they are sending out newer test versions or not... I had all kinds of stuff loaded - Butler (now known to have 650 problems), DateBK5 and Agendus trials, etc. Who knows what the culprit might have been. My complletely uneducated guess would be that maybe Mapopolis is stepping on a memory address somewhere that was always free on the 600, but maybe is sometimes used on the 650. Dunno... But at least that eliminates KBLightsOff as the only culprit.

I'd like to second this motion. This little app is perfect for allowing me to read eBooks in bed in the dark without feeling like I'm being blinded. But the flashing LED can get extremely annoying. Butler has this feature too, but it would be easier if both were in the same app.

Either way you'll get my registration fee!

    Way to go Silverado!!

Thanks for your help. I'll have to look into this issue further. Ill try a hard reset with KB lights and Mapopolis only. I'll let you know how it works. Thanks again for your help.

Great app Silverado, will definitely purchase when you set that up.

    Two suggestions/enhancements:
    - Ability to set the number of seconds in auto mode before the lights go off.
    - Ability to have usage of the hard keys turn on the keyboard lights in auto mode (read your reasoning on the current config, but still would be nice to have it as an option)

    Thanks!

1st idea is awesome. I too think that would be a good idea.
2nd i dont mind how it uses the double tapping of the side botton.

Actually, allowing the user to adjust the number of seconds has been my intention as I created the auto mode. If you look closely you'll see that the number "8" in the main screen is in an input field, but it's currently disabled. However, I should say that 8 seconds is what the Treo 600 does and in my experimentation proved to strike a good balance between being annoyingly quick and staying on too long. I'll add this if many people think they'll use it.

Making the hard keys turn on the lights is easy to do. If there is enough interest in it I can add an option for that.

As a general comment, one has to strike a balance between flexible settings and making the app too complex for simple use. For example, chosing the fixed 8 seconds over giving the user a choice was, in my view, a good thing since making it an option would probably frustrate many users as they keep going back and forth to change the setting in search of their "optimal" number. The 8 seconds seems to work quite well and strikes a good balance. But, as I said, I'm open to your input and will do it if there is enough support for it.

I too love this application. I will happily pay, once you set the price.

    A feature request...

When in Auto Mode, you still allow the toggle keystrokes. The toggle option is a little less needed with Auto Mode. I.e. the keyboard lights turn on with *any* keystroke, so the only real purpose is to turn off the lights in fewer than 8 seconds. And that is where the feautre request lies -- what would be more useful to me, is if they overrode the Auto Mode altogether. I.e., if automode is on, and the lights go on, then double-clicking the side turns the lights off, AND turns off auto mode. If I then double-click, with the lights off, then it turns the lights on AND turns auto mode back on. Basically, double-click toggles Auto Mode, instead of toggling just the keyboard lights.

I want to be able to use auto mode in general, but there are times when I just need the keyboard off (in a theater for example, when the keyboard lights are just too bright). I don't want to have to keep going into your app to manually turn off automode. My hope is to have your app be "set and forget".

Thanks again for the hard work!

It used to do exactly what you are saying.

Silver is working on different option for this solution which as he said would be more logical to the app itself. I think he is right.

    Stay tuned....

Thanks for this great app, silverado! Just tried it out and it works great! I'll definitely be a registered user once you release the price. Looking forward to trying out all future updates!

    love thw app silver...but..
I use my side button to bring up my zlauncher quicklaunch list... now I am unable to manually use the side button to toggle keyboard lights w/either double press or w/option & side button. it wouls be nicw to choose your own key to activate....like hold alt key I never use.

    Johnskil969,

I will work on this and put in other ways to toggle. In the mean time, please email ZL support as well and ask the to use the side button only as they claim, which is with a simple click, and not with shift or option. This is what the case should be, but programmers often forget and hog the key completely for all its uses.

By the way, in a pinch, you can change the light status from inside the main screen of KB LightsOff by pressing the On/Off buttons next to "Current state".

It would be nice if the key combination was configurable. By the way, the "alt" key you mention is the one I use to bring up zlaunchers quicklaunch list.
