Yeah, it's pretty good. I still prefer PalmVNC since it's a standard and works pretty fast.

VNC works on the Mac too.

Yeah... PalmVNC is a lot better... Then you can access the machine from your palm or a regular pc with the same remote control server.

Also, Palmvnc is free. WinVNC is not if you need any kind of security (even locking your PC doesn't work with the free version).

Do I need something on the Mac side, and can somebody put down some instructions?

    Thanks!

    This should help:

Instead of "Chicken of the VNC" on the controlling end however you'd use PalmVNC.

I use PalmVNC on my 650 and WinVNC at home. I just can't get it to zoom, every time I change the scale I get disconnected. Any ideas?

Do you need to run Mergic or other software or just the desktop server software and PalmVNC?

For those of you with Windows 2000 or XP machines, you can use MobileTS. Its simply a Palm client for the Terminal Services (aka Remote Desktop Connection) that comes with XP and 2000/2003 server. I find it runs very well and is quite stable. I like it because you don't need to install any software on the remote machine.

Just be sure to point port 3389 to your PC to make it go.

Thanks. On the Mac do you have to use the "install application" choice, or can you just use the start sharing command? (I'd rather not install and/or have it automatically start up)

Jason, my xp machine is behind a router. Do you mean I need to open that port on the router in order to get to the pc?

When I used MobileTS once, it resized my desktop and moved all of my icons around. Is this normal behavior for MobileTS? I have not used it since so I haven't done any more testing.

That's right. If your computer's IP address is 192.168.1.10, you would create a rule on your filrewall that would forward all traffic on port 3389 (TCP) to that internal IP. Of course, with any of these options, you need to be able to find your PC from across the Internet. If your ISP hasn't given you a static IP, consider using a service like http://www.dyndns.org/services/dyndns/.

But you can change it to some other port number if needed:

Remember that Mobile TS is for Win xP pro only, not win xp home.!!! (Wish I would have ordered PRO with my computer a year ago)

It depends on how you set it up. Under the Global Options button yuo can specify the screen size. If you leave it at 320x320 (the screen res of the T650), it will try to scrunch all the icons into the available area and adjust the menu bar. Its just like if you were sitting at your PC and changed your screen res from 1024x768 to 320x320.

The way around this is to set the Global Option for Virtual Desktop Size to the same screen res as your PC (probably 1024x768). Then you can use the Treo screen to pan around the PC desktop without permanently affecting the icons.

In order for PalmVNC to "scale/zoom" it requires the "server program" to have that functionality. I am also running WinVNC at home and it doesn't scale...I get disconnected as well. Kind of a bummer.

Any way to get more colors with MobileTS? Looks like it can only transfer 256.

    "Opening the network...skipped

    ERROR: cannot connect to
    xx.x.x.x:xxxx"
