This is the Mother of All Polls.

Please don't vote until you've had your Treo 650 for at least a week.

If you later need to adjust how many times you returned your Treo 650(s), post a message to this thread indicating the updated # of returns.

    The poll won't expire.
    The poll is not anonymous.

nicely done. though since the poll can't be updated, except by a 'verbal' update within the thread, it'll suffer a similar problem to mine. by having it expire, it makes it a snapshot for comparison with later polls.

but i should have turned off anonymous in mine, that's for sure.

Your poll was a good design within the limits of this site. I think you should have kept it open for at least two weeks, though. Can this be changed?

I find it quite ominous that your poll is now showing a 40% return rate! I'll be watching how things work out here at Treocentral, but that vaporware Samsung is looking more and more attractive...

as far as i can tell, once a poll is in place, it's immutable.

40% is an exaggeration, but nevertheless the numbers aren't particularly pleasant, i'll give you that. on the other hand, these are 100% pure, unadulterated, fresh off the assembly line units. the very, very first run of lots of products have glitches. most of the problems reported have been of the glitch variety - stuck pixel, stuck letter on keyboard, things like that. not many dead-out-of-the-box reports - one, i think i remember reading.

joad has voted that he's returned four or more. either he's trying to throw a monkey wrench in the poll, or he figures that having returned four T600's, tried a T650 and gone back to his last T600, that counts in this poll.

i suppose if you want to play games, you can interpret the question, and the response, that way.

    i think it's bull, myself.

At this moment of the morning your poll (NOT this one - only showing 34+% here!) is showing a 38+% return rate.

Sounds like "40%" is right on the money.

Last night, based on the total # of phones returned in your poll, the return rate was a little over 39%, so "40%" is not much of an exaggeration. While I'm suspicious that a lot of the phones may have been "returned" by bill_gates, bill_gates_1, bill_gates_2, bill_gates_3, ad nauseum, who knows?

It would be helpful to the Treo community for the moderators to "Sticky" a decent poll about the Treo 650. If they have some way to alter the way polls are made so that users can later change their votes, all the better. Let them know if you agree.

Shouldn't this person be banned for his useless, trolling comments? Interesting, seeing how you've decided to ban The Zen of Palm and their close friend The_Zen_of_Palm for no apparent reason.

    How odd.

"you two need a hobby" is a lot different from "you're a stupid sack of $!$#% and i think every @$$^ thing that comes out of your mouth is @%^@!"

    it's a throwaway one-liner.

pardon me for laughing, but that's a pretty peculiar thing to say -

'...is showing a 38+% return rate. sounds like "40%" is right on the money.'

um. well, uh, no. 38+% would be "right on the money", at best. 40% is an exaggeration. but i'm sure you'll rationalize it however you see fit.

heck, 40% is nearly 50%. why don't you just say 'sounds like 50% is "right on the money"'? and heck, 50% is half of all T650's! the other half must be rationalizing their purchase, as clearly the T650 is little more than a small rattling bucket of resistors and transistors that can't do anything useful at all - so let's just dispense with the formalities - all T650's are junk. make the leap. i'm sure you can do it!

Another thing to keep in mind is that you're gonna see more people browsing TC (and responding to these polls) if they're having issues with the phone. Therefore there's more than likely gonna be a skew to the negative. I'm not sure how big that is, but something to keep in mind.

really? geez. i'm getting the feeling the hammer has really come down here. i guess my responses probably fall into the same noise band as seldom's et al, so perhaps i'm on the chopping block too if i don't watch out.

oh well. it's TC's forum to run as they see fit, they'll have my support 100% even if they ban me.

The plain truth here is that any poll done on TC is going to be skewed in some fashion. I haven't checked, but if only a few hundred votes are cast, what does it tell us? Nothing IMHO.

Being that most here are on the bleeding edge (the so-called "power users"), it's only a fraction of the Treo-using public I'm sure. And, like any other forum, most people post problems and complaints, not success and accolades (though there's a fair amount regarding the 650 here).

Knowing how many 650's P1 has shipped to customers and how many have been returned to them is the only way to make any kind of judgement.

The real story in this poll is the ridiculous ease of returning a handset of any type to Sprint in their stores. They seem to think that ordinary handsets and smartphones directly equate or else they dont train the in-store technicaians. A looping Treo 650 is probably a bad migration and not a hardware issue. I guarantee you that many of the Treo 650s that get returned to the store have nothing wrong with them that a little software tweaking would not fix. Am I wrong?

Unfortunately not. User error is responsible for most returns, regardless of the product type.
