It's funny you should say that. My T650 is dropping nearly every call on me, and I exchanged it and it's still dropping calls.

    I posted a thread here

I'm pretty sure it's not a user error, nor is it a signal issue, as my T300 and T600 worked perfectly before. Do you think any of you could help me out?

The concern apart from the approximate 20% return rate, is that the Treo 600 had similar threads regarding its return rate.

I returned mine (T600) and sold the refurb, that was my escape (the guy who bought it from me had to return the refurb weeks after).... I just dropped in here as I was curious what was happening with the new treo 650, i.e. is the unit more reliable than the 600 was? and seeing these threads starting again already suggests maybe the QA is no better???

oh well. it's TC's forum to run as they see fit, they'll have my support 100% even if they ban me.
Don't worry, it is not as bad as it seems. We just had a (couple) of user(s) who like to troll and after warning them they decided to trow caution to the wind and not change their behaviour. So we banned them to keep things nice around here.
But some people think it is great fun to create clones and try to keep on trolling. They go through great efforts too, kind of sad IMHO. All that effort can be used in a much more positive way..

I don't think they will Paul.

Your good posts, while generally long, are fairly well balanced. You are concerned with the return rate and have voiced concern over the quality. Yet you are Pro-650. You are trying to be balanced. Some people are picking words and quotes and hitting you for it.

All I was saying is "water off a duck's back".

may i ask if these particular bans are permanent or temporary (i part time admin a vbulletin board myself). i realize that

    a) it's none of my business and
    b) this isn't exactly the appropriate thread....

heh. story of my life. if i can take 200 words to say what could just as well have been said in 10, i'll leap at the opportunity. it's a character defect. combination of low self-esteem, AADD (the new 'in' malady), and 90+ WPM at the keyboard.

i am that way when i talk. When I write I am accused of being "blunt". In email that's usually taken to be an "attitude" problem.

Your doing fine, it seems like you have a fan club here. Fans don't always have to agree!

Yes. User error is the reason I can not transfer my data in complete from my 600 to the 650.

The fact is, any company that has a product with a high rate of return, user error or not, has a problem.

Well, I need to adjust my poll vote. I orginally voted that I exchaged my Treo to get another one, but that phone didn't work. I exchanged it once again for a T600.

40% is an exaggeration, but nevertheless the numbers aren't particularly pleasant, i'll give you that. on the other hand, these are 100% pure, unadulterated, fresh off the assembly line units. the very, very first run of lots of products have glitches. most of the problems reported have been of the glitch variety - stuck pixel, stuck letter on keyboard, things like that. not many dead-out-of-the-box reports - one, i think i remember reading.
I'm just checking-- you guys do realize that these "polls" are not random, and therefore have zero correlation to ACTUAL return rates, right?

Ninety-plus words per minute? Do you have an aluminum keyboard to keep the friction from melting your laptop/computer? I thought I was quick at around 70 wpm. By the way, about your question about these guys being banned. I think they ought to let SV have another chance, even though I seriously doubt he'll change his ways. He's a very smart, talented individual who offered up some very interesting opinions between his usual posts of mockery.

    yes.

but it's fun to pretend like they have some real meaning/value.

seldom was certainly smart. i can't speak to talent, as i'm not sure how one would discern that from anonymous posts on a forum. in any event, i don't think the ban should be permanent, but once again, it's not my forum to run.

to be fair, as to the wpm, 90+ is the burst rate - when pushing for speed in a wpm test. my average sustained is likely more in the 70wpm range as well.

Certainly most user returns are caused by user errors.

However this poll only concerns Treo Central users where one would expect that the Treo 650 owner to engage some personal effort to problem solving any issues with this Treo before returning it to the store.

Unless people being untruthful in responding to the poll, I think this poll does reflect actual hardware problems with the new Treo 650.

Once again, the poll speaks in volume...
The numbers are better then I thought. Funny how something can take on a bad air when people are not happy. From the buzz on some sites, and this one too, the treo600 and 650's should have never been released and never work, but like all the other polls, the polls show other wise.

Companies need to keep people happy, almost every person who is not happy will let it be known, and I bet only one out a couple hundered happy people will ever say anything.

I wonder what the real ratio of unhappy people that let it be known is compaired to the ones that are happy and let it be known? If I had to guess I would say over 80% of the unhappy people let others know, either from word of mouth, posts or what have you, and only 20% (probably lower 15%) of happy ones ever say anything.

Not to down play any of the people that are not happy, even if a company has a 99% good rate of an item, it really stinks to be that lucky SOB that gets that 1%, because that 1% is 100% unhappy.

However, the one man crusade to put a company under is getting a little old, almost like duplicate posts if you get down too it, but thats a whole other subject all togethere.

I'll get off my soapbox now...what the ell do I know....

just my 2 stinking cents worth, Matt

I just returned mine that I got next friday, it had a dead pixel in the middle of the screen. This new one has a great screen, but the lower left part of the keyboard is a bit loose. Can't have everything I guess...

Edit: It's frustrating though, when you buy from someone like IBM, you know their product is going to be perfect when it gets to you, and if it's not, they do everything in their power to fix it. If I told the guy at the Sprint Store "well, you know.. thanks for letting me return that one with the dead pixel, but this one has a loose keyboard, could I get a different one?", he would have kicked me out of the store. Device quality shouldn't be a compromise.

Dead pixels are a common problem in the whole sector and different companies have different policies.. some let you return it some say it goes with the territory to have x dead pixels.

As for IBM (and other big players) going out of its way, that was the case 5-10 years ago, but nowadays the margins are so low everybody seems to cut cost where they can..

I understand about the whole dead pixel thing -- i was glad they let me return it, since I know you can't on monitors and such. It's not so much about IBM going out of its way for customer service, but that it's kind of crappy to have a roulette of sorts for whether you're going to get a device with a (however small) defect in it, especially for the amount it seems to be happening.

23% return rate is not good at all.

As for a one man crusade sinking P1, I think the R and D team is more then one.
