I have been a verichat user for a while but seeing as how rarely it gets updated and how often Causerie gets updated, I might be thinking of making that switch

It's worth a look although I gotta say there was an abnormally long drought of nothing from mantragroup for about 5 months (no new releases, sparse communication, forums gone) but it appears they have their act together again...

    james, thanks for the input.

i recently installed verichat and toccer on my phone one then the other, and both had tremendous problems with my brand new treo 650. constant resets led me to ditch both. so far mundu is working pretty well for me, but i might give causerie a shot as well.

because of the recent automatic resets from verichat and toccer, i'd advise against both, unless i'm doing something incorrectly or i was shipped a defective unit as it is only 6 days old. anyone have any input on this? thanks

Verichat works great for me. I don't use Versamail, so that may be why. I did have reset problems in the past when I used Versamail.

retroinspired, I suggest giving Causerie a shot and see if it suits you.

With Toccer, what are you doing that seems to be causing resets? If you're running Toccer from an SD card, you'll definitely get constant resets as Toccer needs to run from the Treo's internal memory.

One new but great IM software for Treo 650 / 700 is QuickIM (http://www.quickim.com), it works only for MSN, but does an excellent job. It's easy to install and use, and it's one time fee only

Any of this applications allow to search for new people like a regular ICQ? If I am not mistaken - NO, that's bad!

But we lose twice here. First and foremost, we lose because POS is a POS... no memory protection for poorly written applications. And we lose because Verichat is not properly debugged. Personally, I've found Causerie to be a nice alternative... though they need to deal with some scale issues on their back-end servers. At least their code seems much more well behaved WRT resets...
yes but a delay of 5-6 secs when exiting causerie! That blows big time - other than that, its ok. I'm using the hacked verichat version for 700p vzw.

My problem with verichat were the 2-3 resets a day I got when running it. I get none with causerie. (I also run it on a 650, so don't have the 'slow' exit problem.)

how come us palm users cant just get aim and yim and maybe msn as a built in app like blackberries and sidekicks. i hate using these 3party apps that dont work all the time and i have to pay a one time or yearly fee for. Toccer is prolly the best i have used even though it is very simple. i have also used all the othe apps out there to. and i think we need these apps built in and that also goes straight to the aim or yim server that would be great dont u guys think.

I have a 700p and would like to use AIM. I was looking at Toccer and VeriChat. I'm assuming that these both support the 'always on' feature? Will running either programs use up any significant amount of batter power (any one of them use more battery than the other)?

I noticed on both websites they say they only support up to the Treo650. Will these work well with the 700p (or rather which works better with the 700p)?

Has anyone tried this yet? I wanted to receive my email instantly just like a Blackberry's PUSH email system without having to "AutoSync" every minute using up my battery life. Here's what I do. I've set my email account to automatically forward the email to my Treo's SMS Messaging. Although the SMS message is only a 2-3 line text, I'll get enough info to actually know if the email is worth getting with VersaMail (or whatever your Palm Email program).

For instance, if someone uses GMAIL, Yahoo, or even Sprintpcs.com email, you just have to do this:
Go to Settings in your Email account.
Click the Forwarding and POP tab.
Click the radio button 'forward a copy of incoming mail to'

If you use a Sprint Treo:10digitphonenumbe@messaging.sprintpcs.com
If you use a TMobile Treo:10digitphonenumber@tmomail.net
If you use a Verizon Treo:10digitphonenumber@pager.myairmail.com
    If you use Cingular: 10digitnumber@mobile.mycingular.net

    click save changes.

    Voila!
You have Pseudo-Push Mail for Sprint for free.

OK so I downloaded the trial and installed it on my verizon 700p today. First thing I noticed was that at various times when I would switch to the causerie app it would go the login screen and the little timer would count down and login. It is supposed to stay “always on” if I have that option set right?

Next I noticed there is no way to know if you have an IM most of the time, for instance I take the phone out of my pocket and hit the phone button to make a call. I make the call then hang up, absolutely no notification that there is an IM. Now if I open up causerie then I see the little double boxes in the top right corner, then I can bring up that buddies IM session. I have it set to vibrate and beep on incoming IM’s and that works but most of the time I will not hear that of feel it. I would have expected that it could use the palm alerts functions to flash the little alarm icon or the asterisk that other programs use.

Am I missing something or is this just how bad it is?

pdaapps just told me that verichat can no longer be purchased. anyone else heard this? i'm still looking for a good multi-service IM client for the 700p. suggestions?
  20. #100
Well, if the developers are telling you it can't be purchased then I'd say it's a fair bet it can't. Doesn't surprise me much, though, considering they haven't released a new version in... what... almost a year now... ? As a former Verichat user who got tired of waiting for "the next release", I've advocated people move on to any product that developers are actually supporting.
