    Whatever helps you sleep better.

If you used the big words, be prepared to define them properly.

And you have proven a point, just not the one you set out to...

yep, i think it's time to try out the 'ignore' function. i have no use for 'debate' with twelve year old children.

This poll, even though it minimizes the problems with the TREO 650 as already discussed near the top of the thread, is not shining a good light ON the TREO 650, no?

in what way does the poll minimize the problems? it's requesting information on return rates, which neither minimized nor 'maximizes' the problems. can you explain?

is not shining a good light ON the TREO 650, no?
thus far, the return rates are not good, by any stretch. a 17% return rate for what can reasonably be assumed as outright defects is terrible (that being the 'returned for a new 650'). a 13% return rate for what can reasonably be assumed as usability defects is terrible (that being 'returned to go back to something that actually works for me').

the intent of the poll, mon frere, is not to shine a good or bad light on the T650, it is to find out some useful metrics on quality control, return rates, and usability defects that caused customers to return them.

as it's also reasonable to assume that all of those who have voted thus far have - or returned - T650's from the very first manufacturing run of them (seeing as it's only been on the market for two and a half weeks, we have a benchmark - so to speak - of the above mentioned metrics for the first run of them. in a few months, another poll will give us additional useful metrics as the 'second' and beyond waves of manufacturing hit the streets.

actually, i've decided not to ignore. i've never ignored/killfiled anyone in the 18 years i've been on the internet, so why start now.

A 38% return rate - 38 out of 100 TREO 650s as of the time of that "shining light" post of mine, does not shine a good light on the TREO 650, no?

did you not understand my followup to that post? apparently not. this is a snapshot of how things stand at this moment in time. there's nothing less valid about this than any other. hey, as others have said - if you think you've got a better more valid poll, go ahead and make one yourself.

this poll does not minimize the problems with the treo 650 at all. sheesh.

did you read my last post? what part of it didn't you understand? i'd be happy to explain it to you. or is your intent solely to get someone to say "the T650 sucks"?

    18 years huh?

    1986?

You (1) do not understand that taking a poll where the results would ONLY get worse if those who took the poll can answer again minimizes the problems of the polled-about device and (2) you cannot do simple addition and note that your own poll says the problems are worse than you say the poll is saying.

    Clue - when someone says they've returned 3 TREO 650s that's ==3== bad TREO 650s, not one.

Though his image looks too young for that timeframe please note that ==I== have been "using the internet" since before it was known as that - as a graduate student pre-1980 we regularly emailed folks on the darpanet...

I'm actually surprised at the high rate of return to date. I love my 650, and haven't run into any QC issues yet.

    Thanks for the poll, anastrophe!

sigh. make your own poll then. this is a snapshot. it's a perfectly valid form of gathering metrics. in a few months, an identical poll will give a snapshot further into the maturation of the product.

jesus. relax. again, make your own $#@ poll.

that's true. it's an imperfect poll. i'll leave creating the perfect poll to you.

Today I returned my Treo 650 for another at the Sprint store. I've had the 650 since the 19th of November, but in the last 2 days, it has 6 times asked to "reprovision" itself. Admittedly this is after I went to the Sprint shop to buy my wife a phone and cancel one of my lines of service. The Assist. Manager swears -- to his grave -- that the fact that my phone lost its wireless web capabilities within 30 minutes of leaving the shop HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH ANYTHING HE DID. Yeah, right (notice how two positives make a negative?)

In any event, after 4 calls to Customer Service and 90 minutes of waiting, a Tech got it reprovisioned... twice, and then it has done it by itself 4 additional times in the last 2 days. More than annoying.

I am delighted that the shop just replaced it for me, even though it's slightly outside the 14 day window.

The good news, there was a newbie couple who had EACH bought a Treo 650. He had a simple problem, which the Sprint folks couldn't help him with, that was easy for me to solve. And I was able to point him to TreoCentral.com!
