I have no idea what sort of sensibility of processor speed is necessary for such devices, but would somebody tell me if something already exists (not Measure It 1.1) to measure distances with the IR beam?

For people in the real estate construction business I've seen a small (laser?) device that permits you to measure distances between walls electronically.

Feasibility with the IR port? Perhaps, if the beam is too weak, a pocket mirror can be used on the opposing wall?

I doubt you could do this with the included IR transmitter/receiver. The beam is too weak and it spreads out more and more as it goes. You could use it to measure small distances though. Maybe < 2 feet
